I thought I would post this article about PCV valves that I ran across while trying to diagnose problems with another vehicle of mine. I am not saying this will solve all problems but was surprised at the importance of this often over looked less then ten dollar part. Seems to be towards GM but apply's to all vehicles. Be safe out there!

Man, I don't know if it has ever been replaced on my truck. The grommet is probably going bad because there is some oil build-up around the outside of the valve.

Adding this to my list of PM's.

    Where you guys been?

Replacing the PCV valve has always been part of a basic tune-up.
I do it when replacing spark plugs.

Be prepared to replace the grommet, if there is one (some vehicles have a threaded-on PCV).

Haven't been anywhere yet. Posted this to help others understand the value of changing this inexpensive part on a regular basis.

Some advice to anyone who changes their PCV valve and the grommet falls into the hole for 2.4/2.7 engines. (Which happened to me)

What I did to get it out was just grab some metal wire (in my case aluminum armature wire), and shape it into a hook. Use that to fish the grommet up to the hole opening, and then grab it with pliers to gently pull it the rest of the way out. Alternative make shift tool would be using a metal clothes hanger or a metal skewer to stab unhook-able pieces that may have fallen in there.

What would this imply? Happened to me a while back before I replaced mine.

Never knew this. At 325k miles I'm not pretty curious.

It implies crankcase ventilation is compromised. OEM replacement valve was $10 shipped from Daytona Toyota via eBay.
