I have searched and I cant seem to find anyone that has some of the same issues, it may be a normal thing but I wanted to ask here first. I have a new 17 SR5 4x4 2xxx miles that seems to have some issues accelerating and maintaining speed. It feels like the truck is pulling against something mechanical almost like the engine is under load. I have also noticed that it is quick do decelerate on its own, even going down an moderate incline. I have also been having some crap MPG (16-17 Highway).

I will be running it by the dealership as its still under all warranties but I wanted to see what others had experienced first.

Here's where someone can probably tell me to shut up and it's normal. I previously owned a 16 SR5 2 wheel drive (21-22mpg hwy average) and this is what I'm comparing it to.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Is 4wd disengaged?
Maybe the actuator/solenoid did not do its job and the switch could be in 2wd, but the truck is actually still in 4wd.

I have the switch in 2wd. Would switching 4wd off and back on maybe clear it?

I am not experiencing any other issues typical of 4wd such as pull when turning corners.

    Welcome Nice avatar.

    Check your tire pressure.

What speed are you doing when your getting 16-17 mpg.

A little more information may be helpful.
Is truck totally stock, automatic, v6?

Sounds like you're somehow stuck in low gear...

I highly doubt it’s stuck in Lo. He’d hardly be moving at all if that were the case.

How do the rear wheels feel after a drive? Hot? Wonder if it’s a brake dragging.

I had a similar feeling when my hand brake didn’t fully disengage. It happened when it was 50 and raining all day, then the temps dropped to below freezing that night. I had to wiggle the cable at the rear axle a bit to get it to stop dragging.

could be the rear diff. check around the bolts for leaking diff oil. the symptoms you said are the same as the safety recall notice.

Third this. If your wheels are scalding to the touch after driving you brakes are probably dragging. When you let off the accelerator is it a constant slow down or a little jerky? Another way to check is to listen. Put it in drive and roll down your windows and just let it idle forward and listen for pad/shoe rub sounds.

I said Low gear not Lo.

If he's is 4th as opposed to 6th the truck is going to feel different... ie deceleration down an incline. If he's dragging a brake he'd be pulling to one side or the other.

Edit: OP tell us what your RPM is doing as you drive... staying high?

Ah ok. But if that were the case, he'd be experiencing FASTER acceleration, and not a feeling there is something binding the system.

Seized caliper doesn't necessarily mean the vehicle will pull one way. It's not like it's fully engaged. I had that happen on my old Toyota. Never knew until I saw the scoring on the rotors from the pad being worn down to the metal.

Another good way to see if its brake drag is to chalk it, jack up wheel by wheel and spin em.

32psi from the dealer, highway speeds 60-70, completely stock automatic.

No leaking from read diff bolts that I could see, had that on the other one and know what to look for.

Tried this with no noises, the slow down was rapid but smooth and I drove it again with no extraordinary temp changes.

RPMs stay at what I would consider normal levels.
    ________________________________
    Other things to note.
*No wild temperature swings before/after setting e brake.
*Sudden onset, just noticed it on my way to work.
*Went back out for a test drive, cycled the e brake before I left a couple times, and no issues however I did notice a nice score mark on my front passenger drum.

Hopefully this was just something temporary I will update as needed. Thank you everyone for the input. If it happens again I will probably go to the dealer and let them figure it out.

If it keeps up I'm going in to the dealer, seems to be doing better when I took it back out.

Absolutely have it looked at. Hopefully it doesn't realize it's going to the dealer and behaves itself. A lot of guys on here have successfully filmed their problems on their phones.

Well 4x4 will be heavier than 4x2. What engine did your previous truck have? What does the current truck?

If it starts up again I will definitely video it, although it's more of a "feel" thing than anything.

I'm going tomorrow to have this all checked since they seem to be known issues on TW

Maybe the e-brake is stuck? Or sticking to the drum even though the handle is disengaged
