What are my options for getting into a different lease?

If you had to lease a car for 5 years to have comfortable payments, you probably should have been looking for something much cheaper. Yet you talk about getting into a Tundra, which clearly is going to cost more than the Tacoma.

You are going to lose a few grand, at least. But the best way to find out is go to a dealer.

Thanks for the accounting advice Bret but I left myself some room to work with. Appreciate the concern though.

Also, if you followed the thread closely enough to pick up on all those details you should probably also have gathered that I admitted getting into a Tundra or more expensive vehicle was wasteful and not a good move at this stage and that I was going to give the truck more time to adapt as a few have suggested.

Your always going to get people taking a crap on you when you explain a gripe you have, I have the same mileage as you around 600-700 right? and yes sometimes the shift is like a little jerky but we have less than 1k miles! brand new parts do need to wear in. Just take it to the dealer and have them look at it for you. if its a defect then that sucks and if its normal and you just arent use to how a truck feels then test drive and switch and see what the dealer can do for you. I moved from a CRV to this Tacoma yes its different but i just fell inlove with this truck weird shifting or not its everything i wanted and sometimes more.

    Good luck OP.

It feels that way if your don't use ECT to much. You get use to mashing the pedal but with ECT it takes less throttle input. I thought the same way when I used ECT intermittently. With the ECT on all the time mod, I quickly adjusted to the quicker throttle response and can't live without it now (didn't think i needed it initially).

I grew up in 3/4-1-2.5 ton trucks from the 60's and 70's...those were down right barbaric in comparison to what we have today.

Have driven the new automatic Tacoma too, dunno I could barely tell when it shifted. Are you guys trying to drive it like a sports car...or are you like me, a grumpy middle-age man that isn't in too much of hurry anymore.

Because I hear it form both sides, some guys hate it, others are fine with it. Wonder if it is the truck, or the driver. Maybe a little of both???

Well, since I ride motorcycles, not too much of a concern for me. When your number is up your number is up.

That said, I am tired of wrenching on vehicles...restoring an older one will probably never happen. Rather be out exploring.

At this stage that would probably make me feel a bit better about the whole thing.

Prolly need a manual release to ease the stress... ha ha!

...that and get off the forum with us knuckleheads and go talk to a dealer, might go look at the Ridgleine. I actually like it and have considered it, but it misses a couple marks for me.

Nothing wrong with a Ridgeline. My neighbor has one and loves it. I've driven it and it is very nice and he uses it as a truck. Had it loaded down with pellets for his wood stove a few days ago.

OP, hit the ECT button. Report back.

I've tried a few things between lights this morning; ECT, S-mode, ECT and S-mode. Best results are with S4 in the city. Smoother overall but not perfect.

Yeah maybe I need to just stop thinking about and let it drive for a few thousand more klicks...still going to fight with my dealer on checking fluid for now though.

Good man. Everybody's expectations are different. Try different things. See what works (or doesn't) for you. Let us know.

Even though I think trucks have gotten soft over the years, to be honest like most people I really don't need a HD truck anymores, it would work for about 90% of the things I do, but no low range, no 6' bed...mileage isn't as good as they claim, not exactly cheap either.

If I am going to give up some capability compared to a Tacoma, I want at the very least 30 mpg hwy.

    http://www.fuelly.com/car/honda/ridgeline

Sad thing is what I want is not some unicorn dream, that 30 mpg want is readily available overseas. Ford, Toyota, Isuzu, Holden, Mazda, Nissan, etc all offer little trucks that can do it, or very near it. Just can't get it here.

That’s the spirit op it’ll all be alright if you like the truck. You should observe a noticeable performance change by the time you get around 1800k miles.

If I didn’t know better and had listened to some of frantic panic during the break-in period going on here about the transmission being low on atf, being crap and what not, I would’ve had a bad time.
Some people don’t seem to experience this break in period or maybe they don’t notice or say anything here, but I did experience a learning curve and the truck transmission combo is just fine.

As for taking it to the dealer to have them check the fluid, that’s up to you. As for me, I spend that time driving it, rather than wasting it at the dealer and taking a chance that they would overfill or introduce contaminants into the system that would come back to hunt me somewhere down the line.

The system is sealed for a reason, and getting to the filler plug is no easy feat.
There’s a hot exhaust to deal with in very tight or limited quarters and limited time to add fluid to get it right.
Even the tsb addressing some concerns makes no mention of checking the fluid level, and to me that’s further confirmation that it’s best left alone.

    But that’s just me.

30mpg Would be nice and worth the current price. If our truck was diesel we could get away with that, but currently its just not worth it (to me at least) with the higher upfront price and then they hit you with the higher diesel prices which is ridiculous.

Diesel used to be much cheaper than gas until the gov. figured they could increase the price of all products we consume by raising diesel prices for truckers. Higher overall prices means higher taxes for all, but I don't want to go there lol!

    Cheers!

Even though manufactures are introducing diesels, think the ship has sailed for me at least. The emission systems make too complicated and expensive. Any gains in fuel economy are lost in upfront price, and repairs down the road. Believe Ford is only offering theirs in the F-150 upper trim models. Gonna be $60K by the time everything is said and done...I don't know about you, but the whole point of getting better fuel economy is to save a little money.

Have found a couple Rams and GMs in the low $30K's...can't trust it though, at least with my money.

Too bad we can't get a 1KD-FTV in the Tacoma without all the BS emission stuff, some markets with in the HiLux had 170hp/302 tq...that sure would be nice.

Would you really want a truck like that though? I used to think they were really cool too and that companies were just holding out on America, but when I visited Thailand I saw these trucks in action and I have to say.... no thank you. Those tiny engines are really only good to chug along at 45-55 mph. And to make matters even worse, the interiors are hilariously cheap compared to American interiors. There's a reason that stuff isn't sold here. No one would buy it.

Besides which, when I cruise along at 55 with my V6 DCLB I get like 25mpg anyway.

Dirt bike buddy of mine has a Ram EcoDiesel, consistently gets 30-32 hwy with, it will do freeway speeds comfortably...it won't win any drag races, but I don't drive like that anyway, just kinda plunk along.

So they do exist here, however he has a bunch of nagging little problems with it...I am not too crazy about Chry/Fiat products to spend my money on one.

And like what you said, is the trouble worth an extra 5-7 mpg's?
