04 taco Plug and play speaker upgrade?

hello everyone,im having trouble finding some speakers for my 04 tacoma, im sure its been asked a lot but im looking for a replacement from factory something plug and play no modifying or adding extra anything, im running no amps just stock stereo and stock tweeters, any recommendations?

ive checked crutch field but they seem to have different sizes and not a certain kit im a complete moron when it come to audio...

 

front and rear doors will fit 5x7 or 6x8.

Get a two-way for the rear, no big deal.

For the fronts, there is a tweeter in the upper part of the door. (Where crutchfield says "flush mount" and nothing is a perfect fit.)

So, if you got component speakers (separate woofer/mid and tweeter) you'd just need to figure out how to mount the new tweeter in the existing location, either with existing grill, or the one that comes with the tweeters. (I'd think it will be obvious once you see how it sits in the spot. Might need to cut a piece of plastic or some other material to make an adapter.)

The other option would be to get a 2-way speaker in the front, and ignore the separate tweeter. (Might look for one that has the ability to "aim" the tweeter upwards, so it's not aimed at your shins.)

I'm in the same boat, but I haven't decided what to get yet. But I'll probably go with component speakers.

 

Just changed mine out and finished last night. Rear doors got infinity 5x7s. Pretty easy install. I did have to cut away some of the plastic on the speaker mount where the new speaker basket was hitting.

Fronts I went with component 5.25s. Had to get the scosche sa68 adapter for the 5.25s. I also had to cut out the existing tweeter grill to mount the tweeters on the outside and point them towards the seats. Overall about 4 to 5 hours install of new front and rears.

 

Question about this: process. I've taken my door off a few times for various reasons (handle broke, had to replace), and the inside door rod tie is barely on anymore. There is like a tiny retainer clip, anyone know where I buy some spares? Dont wanna upgrade my speakers and accidentally snap this piece and not be able to open the door. Thanks!

 

Not sure about that peice...but if you get the door panel loose of the clips and unplug all the electric connectors I found that if I turned the whole door panel in a vertical position the handle part fits right through without prying it.

 

Good luck getting an aftermarket tweeter in that stock location behind the grille without a little modification. Might just wanna find something that'll fit in that hole. I'm thinking it's around 40mm? I rounded mine out to 44mm & it didn't take much.

 

what components did you get? Any pics of the tweeter from behind?

Sorry, no pic from the back but they are pretty tiny. Infinitys tweeters also come with extra peices to configure your tweeters a few different ways. I believe I could have mounted them in the factory spot behind the tweeter grills but I opted for the flush mount so I could point them a direction.
