newbie... rim / tire questions

Hi all.

Looking to upgrade my stock rims and tires that came on my 17 Tacoma TRD off-road. I have a few questions and hope you can provide some guidance and education.

• I woud like the rims / tires to be slightly wider the stock, is this possible? What would entail to do so? Would I need a lift?
• Are the aftermarket TRD rims and tires offered at the dealership a decent get? Or can I do better at say, les schwab?

-16" TRD Pro Alloy Wheel (16 x 7)- Part # PT758-35170-02
-17" TRD Pro Matte Black Alloy Wheels (17 x 7)- Part # PRT20-35110-BK

Stock Wheels on TRD Off Road are 16 x 7 with a +25 offset

Aftermarket Wheels have an almost endless possibility, and that will depend on personal preference. But if you are looking in the 16 x 8 range I would stick to something that has a 0 Offset with 4.5" backspacing or -12 Offset and 4" of backspacing. With those you should be able to run a 265/75R16 tire with no lift (mud flaps may need to be removed depending on how aggressive the tread pattern is).
