I am looking to buy a 2012 Toyota Tacoma 4WD Double Cab w/Off Road package.

When I put the vehicle in 4L, the icon flashes and then remains on as it should. When I engage the rear differential lock the icon will flash, but never remains on. The vehicle is running and in neutral. The RR lock has probably not been engaged in a while, if ever. The seller doesn't know. Personally, after looking the vehicle over, I don't think the truck has ever been off road. I know, like old locks, if not operated over a long period, it will not function. Anyone have any other suggestions. Beautiful truck, 63k miles.

Did you try to make sharp turns ( on dirt)? Sometimes moving and turning helps it engage.

You do know you don't want to engage the four wheel drive or axle lock while on pavement? It's not good for the drive train.

You can engage locker on pavement to test. Just don’t turn but a little bit to get the locker to chooch. Then go straight only and disengage soon.
