I'm gonna be in the market for a new truck by this time next year. Thought I would have a new something by now but life got in the way and pushed my purchase out 18-24 months. Anyway I think I've narrowed my choice down to the Toyota DCLB, in either the Sport or Off Road packages, leaning towards the OR. I've noticed you can only order the premium package in certain colors, that seem to change all the time when I build the truck on Toyota.com. Is this the case in real time? I'm not thrilled in the three colors offered at this point. Also, what's the major differences in the two packages? Can these things be flat towed? Currently we flat tow our JKUR behind our motorhome, wouldn't mind towing a pickup, to fit more stuff. Gonna look at the new Jeep Pickup too. Sorry for the book. Looking forward to communities insight.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Hello , First off , Try a different region for the tech package and colors . They vary and the change all the time . Toyota tries to see what they have at the time planned for production at the time . Talk to a dealer when you are ready and they will know .
next a 4x4 Tacoma cannot be towed without removal of the drive shaft / shafts?. A 2x4 ? but I do not think so.

    Edit from manual
Your vehicle is not designed to be dinghy towed (with 4 wheels on the ground) behind a motor home.
    NOTICE
■To avoid serious damage to your vehicle Do not tow your vehicle with the four wheels on the ground

I purchased mine in August 2016. My third Tacoma.

I found trying to understand the options and packages mind-fizzing. Although I didn't buy through Costco, I used their Auto Program to understand what the options/packages were all about and the prices. I was also able to use it to my advantage when it came time to dicker.

Thanks for the help so far. Is the Sport geared differently than the OR? Any stock differences in the two? I think I read the OR has Bilsteins. Only differences visually I see is the OR has fender flares as opposed to the Sport having the non-functional hood scoop, which is sexy by the way.

The or has a locker the sport only has the hood scoop no locker.
Edit. The sport is virtually the sr5 with s hood scoop. The 4x4 model I am not sure of.

The Sport and Off Road are priced exactly the same, lMHO the Off Road is a better deal as you get more.

The difference in Rear Gearing is between Manual and Automatic, btw the Manual is alot of fun to drive!

The off road has crawl control, rear locker, off road suspension (stiffer than the sport) and one more feature I can’t recall. The sport just has a hood scoop and “sport” tuned suspension which is somewhat bouncy. Not Just TRD’s have the same interior though unless you have the tech package. The TRD interior is different than the SR5, the SR5 is more basic.
If you’re going to strip the suspension then don’t worry about it, just get one you’ll get more use from. I have a sport and I lifted it. The reason I didn’t get an SR5 was because I wanted the hood scoop, and two I hate the dashboard on the SR5 compared to the TRD models.

The Off Road suspension is softer than the sport, not stiffer. Softer is better off road. Stiffer is better on road.

OP , the 18 to 24 months or so until you can buy one will fly by. It seems as though I have only had my 16 for several months or so but it will be 2 years next week since I ordered mine . The wait from order in feb. to getting it the end of Apr. seemed longer .
