Must Have Accessories for Tacoma

Hey all,

First time Tacoma owner here (actually first time pickup owner in general.) Got a 2018 TRD Sport with the short bed.

What are the "must have" accessories? I did a search and saw a thread from over a year ago but figured times have changed.

Some things I'm wondering about:

1. Organizers? Whether glove box or whatever...
2. LED replacements for cabin lights
3. All purpose tow hook/strap (not for heavy use, maybe just pulling stuck friends out of ditches
4. Best seat covers that dont look like seat covers, leather or otherwise

Any other cool stuff or "must haves"? Not looking to heavily mod (wire, etc), prefer mostly "drop in" stuff.

LED’s for the interior are a huge upgrade! I would suggest that first. Then probably some basic recovery gear.

After that it’s really just up to you, I have a seat cover for my doggo but I want something that allows easier access to the storage under the seat. As far as good covers clazzio or wetokole both have great looking covers.

I would stay away from light bars until you absolutely need them, I hardly use mine. But some good quality led reverse lights made a huge difference.

Wet Okole covers have been great for me....offer some nice padding and the fit is good. I really like the looks of the leather covers I've seen here at TW, but with wet dogs in and out of my truck I felt these would likely work best for me.













Tweeter upgrade was easy and the sound improvement was excellent....especially considering it was the most affordable way for me to better enjoy the factory system.













Hondo Garage's phone mount works perfect with my large iPhone 7 Plus in a Lifeproof case....fit's great in their Perfect Squeeze mount. Not sure if it'd hold anything larger, though.












One of the most important things I picked up for my Tacoma.....pieced together the "Black Car Kit" from Chemical Guys. My wife bought an '18 Rav4 the week I bought my Tacoma....figured it'd be a perfect time to serious about car car. I'm mighty impressed with the results I've been getting with Chemical Guys products.












Oh yeah.....the OEM bedmat is super.


I like the stock bed, but stuff can slide around easily.








Great fit and nothing slides around. Toss groceries & stuff in the back all time.

 

What up. This is my first post but have been hunting down all the fixings and this is what I've found.

Organizers - Amazon has a bunch for the center console. Different variations.

Seat covers - I have a shedding machine dog and looked far and wide. Landed on Clazzio leathers. Do a search, tons of pics, does not look like a cover at all. Katskins (sp?) Also look nice but a replacement and not a cover. Carhartt also has covers.

IMO Led lights are super bright. If you like that kind of thing that's an easy one.

If you have a bed cover and didn't know, your bed does not lock when you lock the truck. Pop & Lock is a pretty easy install for that.

I'm always a huge fan of putting a sub in any vehicle. Lots of options there.

The stock speakers are pretty crappy. Like paper. You can replace all of them for less than 200 if you do it yourself. Look for the words kicker and cheap in the 3rd gen forum

 

Gratz! I got the DCLB Sport a few weeks ago. I got a few factory accessories right out of the box included the OEM bed mat, roof rack and running boards (don't plan on offroading, so no need for sliders). Picked up the Bakflip MX4 next. Have the Pro grill on order and wheels/tires are next. Highly recommend the bed mat though....u won't regret it.

 

Congrats OP and welcome! I think the OEM bed mat is a good mod. It prevents things from sliding around your truck bed.

I also think a bed extender is nice for the short bed, it also serves as a truck bed divider when your tailgate is closed.

 

Whelp there ya go. Log in today for five minutes and learn that I didn't know I needed a bed mat. I hate crap sliding around. Take my money.

 

The bed mat and door sil covers are a good start to protect the finish. Search for threads with Gunny in them. He’s aparts guy at one of the dealerships and has helped out most of us with OEM parts.

Floor mats and LED bulbs are also a nice upgrade.

+1 this is what I did. OEM bed mat and bed extender. Really nice additions! I did already have the tounau cover so storage is easy in the bed now. Also picked up some weathertech mats. I really like them but a lot of guys on here like the husky style as well.

Next on my list is the pro grille but that's more of a preference than a must have.

Any door sil covers in particular? You mean like the rain guards?

Yeah, I would like some weathertechs but it doesn't look like they are out for the 2018 yet, so I will have to live with the stock ones for now.

 

I'll put in a vote for Coverking Genuine Neoprene seat covers all around. Bought them through Costco (online) and was able to score them for the front and back for $350. Perfect for getting in wet and dirty with easy cleanup that keeps your stock seats fresh.

OEM Bed Mat is a must
Vehicle OCD organizer for the console is nearly a necessity
Mud guards - I have the husky ones which do fine but may replace with the Rokblokz at some point due to their flexibility
Recovery gear - at least the basics to keep behind your seats if nothing else
Weathertech floor mats front and rear - these have saved me countless times and are no comparison to the stock "all weather" mats. You can spill a whole beer, er... soda in one of those mats and keep it contained!
AVS in-channel visors if you like to get fresh air while it's rainy out (or you vape / smoke)

...and if you decide you want the truck to drive better, best mod I have done by many miles is OVTune ECU recalibration.

The stock radio knobs (at least on my 2017) are shallow enough that you'll accidentally hit the touch screen when using them, and it's pretty annoying. Hondo garage makes some replacement knobs that are just a bit deeper such that this annoyance goes away. $24 for knobs seems like a steep price, but you pay it once and it's solved forever. Own the truck for 10 years, and that's less than a penny a day to avoid one of life's greatest angst sources.

For me my must have or wants;
1.) Back seat cover / protector from kiddo & dog.
2.) All weather Mats - I did weather tech and love em - but pricey
3.) Tonno cover I did TonnoPro tri-fol AWESOME for the cost!! - cause I do not want my bed to fill with snow and a place for luggage on the rainy family road trips

Not sure about the factory tonneau, I have an aftermarket tonneau (Bakflip G2) and it closes fine with the OEM bed mat and the bed extender.

 

Oh man. Must haves are such a subjective thing. If you’re 51 and love working with wood and leather, you’ll need a topper and a bull bar. Must have.

If you’re 16-23, probably feel like anything under 6” lift is embarrassing to ride around in... still haven’t gotten the experience to belive in “low and wide” is more pro than tall and weak. Still, screaming “show us your titties” is gonna be a thing for awhile. Necessities are- Facebook and 4loko

23-40 are the golden years for modding your Toyota. Some with success, some with catastrophic failure. Needs are- good credit. Inspiration not required, just rip off someone else’s design. You are gonna need to paint something red somewhere. Dealers choice.


40- leather and wood time- keep it stock. You’re probably just driving around sourcing WW2 memorabilia anyway so fuck it. Necessities? Shit. Grab that 1911 and run it commando. You don’t need nothin at this point.
