Yea you can tell, at least on Tacoma beast website, they show you the base of the headlight bulb it takes and it’s an h8, h9 or h11 bulb... I just thought they were all single filament bulbs

    247B45EF-1D0C-4986-B171-21811A33EB68.jpg That’s an h8, h9, or h11 base. They’re interchangeable

I believe the "mechanical high beam" just means that when triggered, the low beam portion of the bulb turns off and the high beam portion of the bulb turns on, I could be wrong though. My lows are H1, and my highs are H1 as well.

Your high beams and low beams are both the same bulb? And did you mean h11 bulbs?

Yes, but the difference is that my highs are in a non projector reflective housing.

Ok, yea I see your post on the other page, you have a different set of headlights that take two bulbs. Both single filament bulbs and when you flip on your high beams, your second light comes on. I think they were trying to figure out how the lights with only one bulb work with high/low beam

Can you advise how the high/low beam work? About to pull the trigger on the same ones from Tacoma beast. I have a set of Kensun hids off Amazon right now in my stock housings and they work great. They come with a metal housing around them so they’re not blinding other drivers... I was going to get the same ones for these, if I’m correct though, h8, h9, and h11 bulbs are all single filament bulbs. Can you advise on how these high beams work using one single filament bulb? Sorry to bombard you with questions lol

Only my highs turn on, my lows turn off. Going back to the Single bulb issue, how would it be any different than stock? To my knowledge, the 05-15 trucks only run one bulb that takes care of High/Low correct?

They look better executed, given the high/low beams are separate bulbs, so no need to worry about some mechanical high beam actuator breaking or however that works on the 12-15 version.

The difference is the stock bulb is an H4 which is dual filament...so the low is one filament, then when switched to high, the second filament lights up for high beam.

With the single filament you are basically running the bulb at its full blast, with what I am assuming is a cover plate blocking out a high beam, and when you engage highs it actuates and gives you a high beam pattern. The bulb is just fully on regardless.

This is the stock bulb for the 12-15 Tacoma D1D0ADDF-2022-41B5-9DDC-4D982084EE26.jpgit has three prongs that connect into our harness where as the h8, h9, and h11 only having two prongs (positive and negative). The third prong on our stock bulbs is to activate the second filament in the bulb when we flip on the high beams. When you go to a h8, h9 or h11 bulb, it’s a single filament bulb so you need to either run two bulbs (one for high and one for low) or there’s something mechanical that happens using only one bulb that I don’t understand.

Honestly I don't know. I've only switched the high's on once just to see the light pattern so I actually haven't looked into it. The H9 is a single so no Idea. Sorry that wasn't more helpful. I'll have to do some research
