That's the way I feel about my Luminox watches. The black one I pictured earlier is over 10 years old and I spent almost $500 on it. The band is beat up and worn because of all the years on the FD but the case, crystal, and watch still look and work perfectly. All I need to do is replace the band on it and it would look like new.

I like the power to camouflage it so to speak. There are a lot of people that I don’t want knowing I am wearing a $6k watch. When they ask what it is, I can simply say a Seiko. But to those that are in the know, they will appreciate it for what it is. It’s not for everyone, and I am no where near being able to afford one, but I would love to have a GS some day.

Also, I have heard it said, “Buy a Rolex to impress your friends. Buy a Grand Seiko to impress yourself.”

That watch may be engineered to the hilt. But it still says Seiko on it. So like someone mentioned earlier, any watch that you can go to Target or Walmart and buy with the same name holds no value to me when it comes to watches. I'm sure the craftsmanship on it is amazing but as long as it says Seiko on it I'd never give it a passing glance. Call me a snob if you like. I am when it comes to watches.

There is nothing wrong with a G Shock watch because you are buying it for a specific purpose. You know you are most likely going to beat the hell out of it. I'm "personally" not fond of them even though there is nothing wrong with them which is why I tend to choose Luminox watches as I think they are "personally" better looking and will take everything that you can throw at them. But if they ever sell a G Shock for $6 grand (or hell even a Luminox) I'd laugh my ass of at someone that would spend that much on something you can get at Target with the same name.

If you watched that video I linked about how Breitling watches are made by hand then you know what your paying for. So when I decide to un-ass $3500 on a watch it will be a Breitling which you can't pick up a cheap version at Target.

Fair point. Much less chance of someone trying to take it from you. But I won't lie... I'd buy a Breitling to impress myself "and" my friends.

Wearing a Tissot Visodate today. Also have a Tissot PRC 200 with a stainless band. Going to get a Longines Master Collection L2.629.4.78.3 in the next year!

Hell yeah, it’s got more capabilities than a smart watch. Calculator, stop watch, alarm tells time

I agree with that. And not a knock against Corvettes, the top end Mustangs, or even the Camaro. But with the exception of the Corvette that is produced in it's own facility and the Z06, Gran Sport, and the new ZR1 are all pretty special cars... it's still a Corvette.

But you look at the beauty of a Ferrari, Pagani, Lamborghini, Bugatti, or even the new Alfa Romeo Giulia, you can see the love and craftsmanship that went into those vehicles. Yes they are extremely expensive but you get what you pay for. If I was lucky enough to have enough money I'd buy a Lamborghini Huracan Performante just because I know all the work that went into that amazing vehicle. A Corvette will "kind of" keep up but it's still fiberglass with a little carbon fiber thrown in here and there. Give me an Italian work of art any day.

Anyone who knows watches and appreciates the small details, quality, finishing, and technology will understand grand seiko. Unfortunately not many do. It is a great watch only to be held back by its name. I buy watches for myself and wear them as I please with no regard to what anyone else thinks. I personally do not own a grand seiko yet because there many many other watches on my list, but I will own one eventually.

    Never enough
I took away two main things from that video. 1.) The second hand of the Grand Seiko really does sweep much more smoothly than the Rolex. 2.) Neither of those watches look particularly stylish in my opinion. I think I could get on board with the Seiko if it had a different color face though. That said, I would never pay $6000 for either of them no matter what color they were.
