I am wondering if anyone has replaced the foam upper portion of a Sumo Spring with a smaller foam or rubber bump stop like the Wheelers Super Bump.

I would like to keep the Sumo base plate and screw off off the foam upper and screw on sometjing that doesn't touch the frame but acts as a nice bump stop.

Pictures for reference. I'm not sure of the thread side

Are you trying to use them as a dual purpose? Like able to swap out either the sumo vs a bumpstop whenever you need?

Did you ever find a suitable part for this? I'm interested in the same.

The SSR 610-40 is for 2nd Gen, you need SSR 612-40 for 3rd Gen it's shorter. If I remember right it's an 1" shorter. Buy the new set, sell your old set. Should sell quick.

OP, the SUMO's and Wheelers both screw in. I think you'd be able to get front Wheelers and just throw them in the back if you wanted. I'm sure I could rig it up if I wanted.

I think OP wants an easy way to go from Sumos to simple bump stop. That way if you have a load you can screw in the sumos, but daily driving you can thread in a stock like stop. You probably could chop down some sumo springs but they're not that cheap.

This. I have the 612-40s and have no issues with a rough ride or bounciness.

So it’s bad to daily drive when using sumos ? I was going to add some for daily driving with occasional towing

No, not bad at all for daily driver. New style 3rd Gen (612) are 1" shorter than old style 2nd Gen (610) So they don't touch until you have enough weight in bed to make contact. Then they are progressive as they compress. The spec's that arnette64 sent are strange at top it give dimensions the same, but 1lb heavier. Then at bottom give correct Height and Diameter. As you can see 612's are shorter designed for 3rd Gen. That chart is also calling 610-40 as 1000lb, which is incorrect. They are 500lb. 610-47, and 612-47 are 1000lb.

Would the 612 work on a 2nd gen?

They may, but I'm guessing your suspension would compress around 2" before contacting, the Sumo Spring. Now that's a guess. That would be a big sag in the ass end before they would be useful. Wouldn't think anybody would want that.

Thread title above, using sumos as bumpstops replacement. Think that's exactly what people in this thread want. I have the shorties without ubolt plate. Planning on swapping factory bump with a strike plate and installing the sumos inverted to the factory frame bumpstop area.

I just installed 612-40s and did some testing tonight. On road they seem pretty similar to stock. Light off road and bumpy forest roads didn't seem noticeably different to me.

    I have these,
    [IMG]

going to mount inverted to the frame bump strike area, and either replace the factory bump with icon strike plates,
    [IMG]

Or I might cut the factory bump down to a square top to adjust for height needed. Also have poly spacers that i ordered with my front wheelers superbumps that I didn't use, may insert between the sumos and frame to space the bump lower.

Does anyone know when the 612 was released? Sumo Springs only offered the 610 for 2016+ when I purchased and now I'm pretty pissed off..

Do you know if the front wheelers super bumps have the same 'nut' size and pitch as the Sumo Springs?
