My guess is he must have gotten it inspected and the photos sent for approval. The notice he received was the OK from Toyota to replace the frame.

Cool a new frame is good.
Just had a guy here at work quailify for a new frame on his 1st gen. Said he had a shock mount break. Says he was gonna have a shop fix it. I was like what let’s take a look under there. Sure enough found holes.

If I was that guy at work, I would have been so grateful for you mentioning looking at the frame for holes, I would have rewarded you with something special. :spending:

God what a mess. This shouldn't even be a question with Toyota, just suck it up and replace all of the frames within the time frame that are affected.

    Yea right!
Pretty surprised he got somebody to weld his shock back. They never said anything to him and it looks like they used a battery and jumper cables to do the welding.

I have some questions regarding the undercoating for the tacoma. I have a 2008 Toyota tacoma access cab with 65000 miles on it and had the undercoating done 2-3 years ago. Since having it done, I noticed there is a lot of rust on the back of the truck by the bumper. Should I be concerned about this? Wasn't the undercoating applied to stop this? Would this still be covered under the warranty or the recall? I purchased my tacoma new. Thanks for any advice/help.

I doubt you can get help unless the rust through is on your frame. I'm watching my frame(just got the extended frame warranty couple weeks ago on my 09), and may needlegun all rust spots and apply POR15 before going to dealer. Tried Eastwood Rust Encapsulator on outside of frame and Internal frame coating on inside. The Rust Encapsulator is not working but the internal coating may be working. Seems to me if the dealer puts on their stuff I won't be able to put anything else over it, so I'll try the POR15 first. I had a 97 that was perfect but the frame. They bought it back from me and had it crushed. Needless to say this will probably be my last Toyota truck, too many years without fixing the problem.

Recently took the 08 DCSB OR to see if it qualified for the frame swap. It didn't, and they ended up putting the black tar band-aid. I wish I would have done my homework....They did an absolute bad job. Minimal prep and missed a lot of spots. If anyone has filed a complaint or sent something to Toyota, let me know how it went. It has crossed my mind since this coating was done awfully and every time I've gotten under the truck, which has been a lot lately for maintenance, I lose a change of clothes cause it gets everywhere. If I would have come across this thread first, I never would have let them touch my frame with that black crap. It's been over a month and the stuff just wipes off.

This isn't a recall, but something they call a "limited service campaign", so basically it's an under the radar recall. The years affected are 2005-2010, so your year doesn't need to be inspected.

So now that you guys have this "stuff" on your frame from Toyota, what will you do? Seems it will last long enough to get past the warranty. I think I've bought my last Tacoma.

I got lucky. I bought my truck about 5 months ago. Toyota is replacing my frame next month.

I don't blame you for feeling that way after having your 97 crushed because of the same problem. My previous truck was a 1988 Nissan 4x4 that I owned for 18 years doing very little to maintain to the frame. If this truck doesn't last as long with all the time and money I've spent to prolong its frames life, will be the last one I buy too, but with all that said I don't see any other car company stepping up and replacing frames on 12-year-old vehicles.

I have a friend that does auto body work for a living and he said the same thing. You would never see Ford or GM replace a frame.

Took my Tacoma into the dealer and I had my daughter tear my clutch out , told them the clutch was out but had to be done by the 21st, I towed it up there. They called me the truck needed to be able to move on its own power. And forced me to have them put the clutch in , they wanted $1200.00, I told them I had a aftermarket clutch , to put that in it would be $800.00, I said $600.00 was all I would go! After a day they agreed, so they put in the clutch , called and needed a flywheel also, I got a aftermarket, when I got it back the motor lights were on, I have a code rwadersaid it was a switching Valve, called the dealer and took it back, told me it was the switching Valve and it would be $1500, I brought it home went and bought a valve off eBay , went to change oil found that they did not hook up the vacume line from the EGR valve, I hooked it up cleared thecoades it worked, found that my skid plate was held on by 1 bolt and a zip the and they did not clean the frame they sprayed over mud and dirt, flaking frame, sprayed wheel wells back schock bolts, now having air-conditioning issues and my rearview camera dose not work this worked before I am so pissed, this is not right they did fix my skid plate, they are trying to work with me Toyota Corprate was called it is not rigbt! I want a new frame and everything working like before! Dealer was on the west side of Columbus Ohio!

My 08 DCSB x4x Sport had the "undercoating" done a few years ago. They had my truck for 3 days. Day 1 - prep. Day 2 - Apply the coating. Day 3 - let the coating set/cure.

I get a notice in mail every so often (not sure what the intervals are) and I take it in for a frame inspection. So far so good, and to be honest, I have no idea what the condition of the coating is, and I don't care.

With Toyota having a long history of stepping up to the plate and spending millions of dollars replacing damaged frames, I would NEVER do anything to my frame myself (paint, undercoating, etc.) that would give them the opportunity to say what I did voids the extended frame warranty so I'm now on my own..... Just my .02.
