So as a ton of us have done I followed the $250 upgrade for the speakers in this truck installing the kicker subby tweeters and kicker cs 6x9 and 6 3/4. I was very happy with the sound but longed for just a bit more. So since i had a Jl Audio 8w3v3-4 sub sitting around that I removed from my 4runner I figured that would be a great place to start. I removed the cubbies and started planing.

I figured out that to get the cubic feet this speaker requires, and to clear the mounting depth i needed a box that was 18.5" long, 6" deep and 9" high. To fit this box some slight trimming of the cubby was needed.

Once i had that part figured out i needed to build it. Now i have never attempted this before so I watched some youtube videos and started in.

And then The trial fit and wouldn't you know it the damn thing fit.

Carpeted the box and made the final install into the cubby. I attached the box to the cubby from the bottom and sides. Had to trim the front to clear the speaker movement.

Now all that was left was to install the amp and run the wires. I used the add an amp harness from Amazon. To connect to the head unit.

And used a Crutchfield amp install kit for the rest. A long with the Jbl gtx 500 amp to power it.

It absolutely completed the sound. I am for once happy with the sound of this stereo. Hope this helps anyone that wants to add a little more to the sound of the $250 upgrade.

Looks good! I really the little cut out of the front lip of the tray around the sub. I know it is there for necessity, but a very nice touch to notch it vs cutting out it completely.

I know this is a year old, but your pics helped me confirm what I want to do with my truck. I think I'm going to make a similar box for two 8" woofers... just need to figure out which ones.
