Thank you! I have been looking at the GFC and Habitat, but I think I may hold off for a while and go with a SoftTopper and the Autohome RTT. It gives me a lot more flexibility and I can watch how these other camper tops fare over time. I looked for an Autohome used but nothing seems to be out there, so that must be a good sign... nobody selling them b/c they like them :)

So if you go with a Softopper make sure it can hold a load. That brand name canopy cannot.

There is a rack that sits atop of the topper.

Just an FYI, it renders the topper “unfoldable”.

That is good to know, though it doesn't surprise me. My thought on it is when out camping I would probably want it deployed and the tent and rack on, but back at home doing other things having the need for an open bed everything could be removed temporarily fairly easy. Would you agree with this?

It is definitely on the short list. My thought was to get setup with something that is not permanent and figure out what works and what my needs are before making a big investment. Also, to let GFC get all of the options included after their inaugural year this year and pick one up next year when they have a heater and a few other things sorted out.

Just got my Decked system for my 2018 DC Long bed. Really impressed with the quality so far. Can't wait to use it. A few thoughts on day one...

    1. Loss of usable space: It's true that an appreciable amount of space is lost in...
    - Front of bed behind drawers
    - Lack of 'ammo cans' in front of wheel wells
    - Simple height and width needed to accommodate the beefy slide and wheel system

I suppose that some loss of space is inevitable to standardize the system for multiple vehicles. The amount of space lost in 'back' of drawers is forgivable, if the drawers were any longer, access to the back would be limited as you reach into the drawers (they don't extend 100% out of the system). I don't understand the lack of 'ammo can' storage at the cab side of the system. Seems it would be doable and the rear 'ammo cans' are a great addition.

    2. System being 'too tall' making the bed unusable for other cargo:

Although the deck is super strong (holds up to 2000 lbs) It's clear that the system is best suited for those with canopies, that would secure any other loads that sit on the deck. Or, using the tie-down system for quads, bikes, etc. Being that the deck is over the wheel wells, the Decked system is great for sheet goods and other wide loads.
For me, I am excited to get my canopy on and have a great camping bed platform thats always ready to go without any additons, changes and allowing me to keep my tools/necessities loaded no matter what kind of trip I am on. The fact is, I am trading some utility for security. I use my truck for work and need to keep valuables in it without loading/unloading every night. and with a canopy the deck will be perfect for larger tools, camping, sports, etc. I knew this going in.

    3. Waterproof issues:

Obviously the system is not 100% 'waterproof'. Its not a sealed system and I am glad. I have experience with other 'sealed' bed boxes and tool boxes and no matter what, they get we inside if only from condensation. The result is musty gear and wet tools. I would rather have a system that breathes a bit to keep airflow and dryness (I live in the PNW). However, top-down water will not get inside this system and it won't fill with water, a great advantage for cleaning and generally living in the rain. With a canopy this issues is basically moot.

    Cost:

At around $1200, this is a steal compared to other bed drawer systems and the quality seems up to par. I am impressed by the thickness, rigidity and overall stoutness of the product. It's very thick and feels solid. Looks like it will last a lifetime. The latches and handles are really great, surprised at the size and ergonomics. These latches aren't coming open. I have also opted for the drawer locks so I can retain security while my tailgate is open. Value bottom line? These aren't cheap, but they seem like a good value. I am a carpenter and have had my truck bed broken into and my tools stolen more than once in my previous truck. Replacing tools a few times makes bed security seem cheap. Really looking forward to the peace of mind.

Loss of access to stock bed cubbies and 110v outlet:

The stock bed cubbies suck. They are not waterproof and not big enough to be useful. Also not secure. The Decked cubbies are better and more useful (and much bigger).
Regarding the loss of 110v. This one is a head-scratcher....the cubbie is situated in a way that the 110v is ALMOST accessible from outside. Why not adjust the design slightly to allow access? I suppose this is because the system is not just designed for the newer models. As others have stated, a short cord lead out could work with the stock outlet cover removed but I would worry about water intrusion. After looking it over, it seems making an access with a 3 inch or so hole saw on the inside of the cubbie would allow access when needed, while still keeping the cubbie usable. (yea, drilling holes into a brand new Decked...gasp!). I really want access to that so I will make a workaround and keep everyone posted.

Some things only the 'Decked people' will understand:

    - Why the sloppy fit on the dividers? The fit and finish on everything else is really good, but the dividers kindof just hang in there. Easy to fix, I will probably just fab up my own but come on Decked, you can do better.
    - Speaking of dividers....an upsell!? this is like one dollar worth of plastic, and everyone needs them. Throw a few in a be heroes forever!
    - I have to pay extra for locks? Really? Ok I'm going to do it but throw us a bone next time.
    - Super cool secondary storage boxed that fit perfectly into the system!!! ,,,,,,EXCEPT...you can't open them unless you pull them out of the drawers. Not sure the thinking on this. would be way more useful if I could open the box tops while they are in place.

So anyway, just got it home and wanted to share my thoughts with those who may be on the fence. Bottom line, I am impressed so far, and will update this thread with pics and longer-term conclusions.
Also pics will follow, can’t get a good shot right now.

Kudos to the guys at Decked for thinking outside the box and making a better bed drawer system. I am gonna use the shit out of this thing. ;)

Hey RadoTaco! We have a great dealer network in Denver. https://decked.com/pages/dealer-location
You could go by A&A Toppers or Surburban Toppers and be able to see a display model. Make sure you call first to ensure they still have the display model on display!

@TheDECKEDGuy Right on, but I was more interested what it looks like installed in the bed. Any idea on height left in the bed??? Thanks

@RadoTaco The DECKED system is exactly 12" tall. So whatever your bed height is just go up 12" and you will see the amount of bedrail remaining !
