There's a couple of times I have seen this in toyotas. There are a few things that you can try. I think the ERR1 code is the laser having problems, sometimes it needs to be adjusted but sometimes it can just be cleaned. Try the memorex cd cleaners, I have had some good luck with them. If not I agree with the guy who said pull it out, disconnect everything and put it back in. Sometimes just needs a reset. Worst comes to worse I have a perfectly working cd/tape player from my '02 that I'll give you for next to nothing. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice man. I'll pick up a cleaner tomorrow and keep you updated on what I find out. If that doesn't work, I'll disconnect it and 'reset' it. And, like you said, if worse comes to worse, I'll probably take you up on your offer for your player.

Stopped by Best Buy, Radio Shack and Walmart, and they all wanted about 15 bucks for a simple cd drive cleaner. I saw one online for 4 or 5 bucks.

However, the CD played fine this morning. But this afternoon on the way home no luck. Must be a dirty laser?

    I just got it!
Yo. I just got an 05 Access Cab, and I have the same problem. Almost every time I put a CD in, it thinks for a few seconds and spits it out.

    SOLUTION:

Put the CD in, count to one. Yes, COUNT to one. then give your dashboard a firm smack right above the CD slot loader.

CD begins playing. Must be something with the mechanism of my slot loader? Maybe it doesn't bring the CD in all the way because some of the mechanism is bent or something and it can't bring it in all the way? That's my solution, and that's how I plan to survive until I install a new head unit. Give it a try!
