It's possible not to rub on flat ground, but once you hit bumps and stuff, you rub. I'm not saying you're guaranteed to rub, but it's very likely and you may have to do a CMC. It's not a huge deal though, and lot of people do it to clear larger tires. If done properly, you can't even tell it's been done.

And don't forget to buy wedge shims for the rear diff and CB drop kit.
I had to installed both items, i have about 2.5" lift. 3* wedge and CB shim to remedy my shudder on deceleration 10-30mph.

I too wanted to keep my stock ride (TRD 4x4 OR DCSB) because how good it rode. I think no matter what lift you get, tires and tire pressure do make a huge difference in how it rides. The stock tires do add to the good ride but lack that look I wanted. In the end I went with the Toytec Boss 2.0 with 265/70/17 KO2 with 17x9 -12 wheels and I love the ride. I waited 9 months to make the buy so take your time to get what you want even if you have to save more to get what you want. $.02

Yea Bc I'm going to buy a $1,000 lift just to ride around to school and work. I could understand if I was off-roading but I'm not so there's no point.

Yea I just want a little bigger tires and rims but don't want to turn the ride quality into shit like with most spacer lifts. Trust me I've been looking for quite some time too lol

Point exactly. There's other options man that are better and will cost similar. Just trying to help you out so you don't waste your money. But if spacers are what you want so be it. No worries.

Wheels, tires and lift can add up quick.. What I did was install a tuff country 3 inch front and 2 inch rear base kit (no shocks) got my wheels and tires and ran that for a couple months then got bilstein 5100 rear shocks and front struts with ome 888 coils and replaced them. The original kit came with rear AAl, diff drop and front skid plate spacers. as others have noted carrier bearing drop may be a good idea, also look into the ecgs front diff bearing. Most cheap kits dont come with UCAs. If you plan on running a wide tire and wheel set up you'll need one to help the truck not feel unstable at high speeds. I do all my own work including alignments so for me it was easy to do in steps, since you plan on paying someone to do its probably better if you do it all at once to avoid extra cost.

Unless you plan on throwing plated bumpers on there/armor, I'm pretty sure 887 is the coil you'll want.

came with the lift.. I think they come w/diff drop kits also.. just a spacer between where the skid plate touches the truck towards the rear.. Does that make sense?

Not everyone needs or wants a suspension lift. I for one like the suspension lifts personally but on the truck I currently own 17 DCSB OR 4x4 I put 25,000 miles on per year on my trucks and trade them every 3-4 years and the dealers here won’t even take a suspension lifted truck in trade.

Yes you can do 5100’s but IMO they are not much better than stock struts or shock. And yes been there done that. Broke 2 5100 on my 4Runner. I personally think they suck ! I would save some money and go OME.

OP , i would do a good suspension lift IF you need one. If you don’t off road or take it slow and easy off road you’ll be fine with a spacer lift. Many people run spacers. Any type of lift changes how the truck was designed to function. Can problems arise and shit break with either one. YES.

I’m 55 yo and have owned many trucks since I was 16 yo. Some lifted with blocks , spacers and suspension lifts. Everything had their pros and cons. Been running Toyota’s since 06. Mostly lifted 4runners , some with nice suspension lifts and a couple with spacers. Only thing I ever broke was a sway bar bracket and 2 5100 shocks. This is my first Tacoma. I have not decided if I’ll do spacers 2/1 or 3/2 or do a full suspension lift. It’s your truck do what makes you happy.
