Dash rattle, Toyota fix?

Im not sure what’s rattling, but its passenger side. It sounds exactly like a bottle of vitamins rattling when driving(I have vitamins in truck, but it’s not that)
I searched and saw that someone stuck toothpicks between dash and pillar on passenger side. My question to anyone had/has this, if you had taken it in to dealer, did it get diagnosed and fixed under warranty?

 

Dealer, fixed under warranty but I had it addressed within the first 5k

I know this is for a 3rd gen but I had the same on my 2nd gen. Realized it was coming from where the dash/front windshield meet. I as well as some others have bought thin foam weatherstripping type material from lowes for 2 bucks. Just tuck it down the length of the windshield. Solved my problems!

 

I haven’t checked there, but It looks like it may be coming from between dash and a pillar on 3rd gen, reason I suspect that is there’s wear mark on the pillar from speaker cover moving around too much. I’ll investigate further weather permitting.

 

Be careful if you remove the speaker cover, the tabs can break easily if you don't do it right. Sorry I don't have more info as I did mine quite a while ago.. take it slow.

 

I had the dealer just do this. They told me they put a wedge in. Its only been a couple days but no rattle.

 

Yea I looked at it and it looks real flimsy, also I don’t want to leave any marks from poking around.

 

Dealer broke the tabs on my speaker grill last time they tried to fix. I think they fixed the initial rattle and created a new one. They are replacing it tomorrow, I hope they fix the rattle for good!

 

Stick some Vaseline in there.... Bet that works..!

 

I just noticed this on my truck and I just hit 18K.

Mine typically occurs only when it’s cold.

I think I’ll stick a business card between the pillar and the dash and see if it happens again in the morning.

 

I removed the speaker panel and A-post trim and used a one-sided razor blade to shave off a little surface plastic from both to create a little space between them where they were rubbing together. Also used a little thin foam and silicone caulk inside of both to reduce vibrations.

 

You're better off finding and fixing these noises yourself. Dealership will simply say "cannot replicate rattle" after driving it around their parking lot. At least that's what happened to me when I asked them to check during one of my free oil changes awhile back. I fixed my 2 rattly spots with paper receipts the same day they "couldn't replicate" . Seems like all service advisers want to do the minimal amount of effort. You will have to hold the service advisers hand and show him/her exactly where it's coming from because they will not search for it. They will still try and dismiss it. Good luck though it's and easy fix.

 

^Yea, thats what i figured. I Figured id probably waste an entire day at dealer trying to fix something so trivial.

So...to remove that rattling speaker cover, one needs to remove pillar cover first. I didnt do that, so broke a bunch of tabs on the cover. i ordered a new one and it should be here saturday. Once it gets here, ill go ahead and use some cloth tape and line all around the speaker grill, i hope that works.

 

They said they fixed mine with felt but it was rattling before I even left the lot. If i put a folded up napkin in there it goes away

 

Well, thats funny. Mine started around 18k mark too, just rolled over to 19k.

 

Every tab on these trucks is the devil. I’ve yet to take a single thing off without breaking a damn tab. Getting real sick and tired if their crap and they are not evun brittle yet. Oh well, guess that means do all the mods now that way I don’t have to do them later!

 

Ill use the whole roll of felt tape if i have to, its getting fixed.

Though just discovered something else rattling at what seems like headliner? on drivers side.. i'm disappointed in Toyota quality

 

Also anyone else notice how the plastics are super soft and sensitive? freaking a.. you hardly lay a finger on it and it leaves a mark
