2007 PreRunner, 4.0, 230K miles. Last weekend I changed the belt, tensioner, pulleys, water pump, and thermostat. I pulled the compressor and alternator to get to the tensioner. My original objective was simply the pulleys and tensioner since it was developing a belt squeal. Well, now the belt squeal is worse. There are no water leaks. It doesn't seem to make a difference if the A/C is on or not. It does it on acceleration from a dead stop and won't quit unless I get off of the gas. Any guesses?

Did you replace just the tensioner pulley or the entire assembly ?

did you degrease all of the pulleys? little bit of grease or coolant will cause a belt slip forever. Unless you have a bad part or bearing going south.

The belt could be older than dirt also.....even new it could be on 07 belt sitting on the shelf since 07.....

Replaced the whole assembly...that's why I had to pull the compressor and alternator. Replaced the belt too. There's another thread on here talking about how to change the tensioner that gives a RockAuto part number for the kit. I used that kit.

I just did everything you do as well but did not replace the tensioner, replaced the bearing instead. What belt did you use ?

Try another new belt. I’m sure you can exchange the one you have. Most Auto part stores will exchange it if it hasn’t been too long.

If that doesn’t work, I’ve used a dab of di-Electric grease on the underside of the belt. Sounds dumb I know but an old man taught me that and it works every time. That belt dressing crap always made mine worse.
