Have always had great luck with bar/chain oil, properly applying it by hand with rags after getting the entire frame nice and clean with an alcohol based cleaner.

I switched to the Fluid Film and have not looked back. It took me about 35 minutes to apply. The non-toxic solution sold me and after several washes the water still beads and just falls off. For simplicity and the environment I cannot think of a reason to use anything else.

Toyota should cut a deal with Fluid Film to coat their frames at the factory and then as a routine 'service' to customers, once a year factory recoat for a fee.

If you sand or paint your frame, that's a good excuse for Toyota to void your PERFORATION warranty.

I just bought a used 2011 with only 28,000 miles on it. The truck is cherry everywhere except the frame and numerous pieces of hardware i.e. nuts and bolts and hose hangers and such.

I spent yesterday and today cleaning and treating the rusted areas. I used Rustoleum and LPS 3. I just got the truck Friday and wanted to treat it before the first snow, which maybe Thursday.

Next spring I plan to clean it again and use Fluid Flim.

    Regards,

    John
