I've been burning some Poplar that I cut last spring (was leaning towards the garage) for a fast blast in the mornings. Burns like crazy, dumps heat, and doesn't leave a lot of coals in the way for when I load the stove to go to work.

Lots of poplar here. Burn it quick don't let it sit around. Lots of heat, short shelf life.

Meh. I don't use it as a primary since we've got a lot of maple, oak, beech, etc. around here that I'd rather burn instead. I split and mixed 1 tree into the back side of the woodshed this fall, and worked the other 3 up into stove length, barked them, and stacked them. Even if it dries out completely it'll still work fine for fast heat in the cookstove or as kindling, or even campfire wood.

At this time of year, and in the fall, the wood stove is turned down more than during the dead of winter. So the fire can die down and have only embers to get it going again.
This is the time for this amazing little tool. It takes the air you blow and funnels it down and reaches closer to the embers for getting a good blast for 'Firing Up' the stove.

Was cutting firewood once, and was taken back some. Brought out the Festool, a quick jig and made a clean cut so they could be used as door stoppers. Damn, need to stone the side plate!

Looking into selling my wood fired boiler. It's a 2009 Tarm SoloPlus 40 Mk2. It has been used for 7 or 8 seasons. Non-catalytic/ pre-emissions. Any idea what it is worth? I have a fellow interested but don't know where to start. I know it was all of $9k new.

Just started to tonight's fire but I don't think we'll need to woodstove too much longer this season

Nice. I wish mine was only 3, haha!
It still heats great, but the glass is getting cloudy/hazy and I just rebuilt the innards & resealed it this past fall. It's a late 90's Mansfield that I bought out of Craigslist, stripped the rust off of the cast iron, reblacked and regasketed it, and we've been heating the house with it every winter since.

That's the reburn -- the secondary burn at the top of the firebox. I agree, it is cool to watch.

Alderlea? I' have the T6, black, no enamel. Best stove ever.

I use a painters razor blade to remove the haze from the window...every now and then.

Mine wasn't maintained very well before I got it; the glass was so seriously hazed that it was like the old mica windows on ye ancient tube stoves. I ended up polishing it with cerium oxide and while it didn't totally fix the haze it's much much better.
