a/c started blinking during defrost cycles about 2 months ago. Truck would idle down, then ac light would blink after a few seconds. Sometimes i'd get lucky and it'd stay on, but 95% of the time it'd start blinking after a few seconds.

    Swapped the relay, no luck.

Noticed yesterday that the schrader valve under one of the black plastic caps was bubbling, took it to a shop today assuming i had low pressure but they claimed all pressures were in spec.

They fiddled with it for 2 hours and the tech said he thought the "coil was bad inside the compressor". I'm not quite sure what that means, but he said everything needed to be replaced - compressor, condenser, etc. for about $1,000.

Now the really weird part...while he was diagnosing the a/c came on and has worked fine all day since he was messing in the engine bay...but he said he did not do anything that he thought could have affected it.

Any thoughts or other things to check? Sorry for the long post :(

    Compressor or clutch.
    Pretty common for our trucks.
I just did my compressor in may 17.

Compressor or clutch like was said.

What causes the light to blink is the computer isn't getting the amount of RPMs it thinks it should from the compressor. There's a magnetic sensor on the side of the compressor.

Unless you have a vacuum pump to properly handle the repair have a professional do it.

Hard to say exactly what it is....i would keep driving it and running it as is till the A.C. completely stops working....our trucks are notorious for having the compressor/clutch assembly go bad. My 06 went in 2011 or 2012....i replaced my compressor myself. It is not to bad(at least on the four cyl) and you can rent the vacuum and manifold gauge set from most parts stores ....dealer quoted me 1300 for the job....ordered the compressor for around 400 from rick auto...20 bucks are so for refrigerant. A Saturday and I was done.
