This is interesting ... my dealer didn’t keep my truck, nor give me a “not to exceed” mileage reading they would get the new cluster set to, and as far as I can tell the new cluster was set to the same mileage as the old one read when when I drove it into the shop AFTER they had ordered and received the new meter (though I didn’t actually check until a few daysafter the replacement). So either my dealer never actually changed it ... unlikely, as it now hasn’t reset for 7K miles and it never went that far before ... or the dealer can in fact program it, and all the folks who had their trucks kept were victims of dealer ignorance.

Maybe, maybe not. Who cares it's a 4-5 day turn around time.

If the Trip A and/or Trip B reset to zero, then start recording again, that could be an accidental button push. If both go to zero, along with tank average fuel economy and the cumulative fuel economy in the Eco app, all at the same time, then it’s a bad combination meter as listed in the TSB. Since tank average mpg can’t be reset manually, without filling the tank, it’s the clear sign of the combo meter glitch.

Just wondering how critical it is to have this fixed. It is very annoying when It does reset, but there is only one Toyota dealer on Maui and I hate every time is see the service dept. it is the worst customer experience I have had at any business anywhere ever.

Welp, only you can determine the "critical-ness" of the repair.
Bad customer aside, it won't fix itself, YOU will get to see it reoccurring as long as you own the truck, and should you decide to sell it, you'll likely need to disclose the defect.
Me? My customer service.... Well, it took me a year, 15K miles and 16-17 resets before they finally sucked it up. Then I was in and out in 90 minutes.
I wish you well, and good luck.

I understand. The hard part is that if they decide to fix it, it will likely take them 2 months just to get an appointment to take it in. Then they will probably take all day to do it. They took 4 hours to change 1 window moulding piece. The critical part of my question was more related to does it adversary affect anything on the truck itself or is it just shitty for me every time I see it reset again.

It's annoying and who know what else electronically is faulty or will fail in that gauge cluster. Do you really want to find out in a few years?

In the meantime, if you are using the trip meters, or watching the economy features(mileage), the numbers accruing can vanish unexpectedly any time.

Concerning your local dealer/service outlet, thats a bummer, and we can only offer our sympathy.

Yeah it did it again this morning.
Could it be the starting circuit protection disconnecting power to the system, causing it to reset?
I have static draw of about 0.3A which I know why and I should be taking care of, when i started the car this morning, my lights were a bit unstable for a few seconds, then fine. And it has been a bit cold here but 20-30F.

I have some low current devices connected directly to the battery. Resets seemed independent of this and the TSB combo meter replacement has prevented any recurrence for 6 months now.

I didn't know there was a TSB for this. I had this happen once in 2016 and just had it happen again today, in 2018.

Now I'm passed my 36k warranty

I would say, take it in for repair anyway, and push it. Worst thet say is no!
Its such an infrequent (in YOUR case), it finally did it again. Just reiterate over and over.
    Nag em!

I delivered my '16 to a dealer two weeks ago, and am just now finding out that the parts to fix it (the odometer assembly) aren't available. They have no ETA on when parts will be available. Talked to Toyota corporate, and they confirmed this.

So, why did the dealership take my truck when they already had other trucks waiting for the same part? "Because-that's the way it works" --Service Manager.

Here's the "take away"... DO NOT leave your truck for this TSB until you've somehow been assured the parts are available, as once the part order is placed, the truck can't move.

I'm sorely disappointed in Toyota... the "Case Manager" (some corporate flunky) refused to go the extra mile and let me know when parts are available. He claims Toyota doesn't have a "Warranty Manager" or "Customer Advocate" that assists in matters like this.

BTW... I'd be VERY interested in knowing HOW this problem is rectified without waiting for a new odometer to be delivered with the exact mileage programed?

BTW, The dealership is Groove in Englewood, CO. Stay away!

Can't move cause they need to program the mileage exactly of the odometer at the factory and send it. Sucks they didn't catch it sooner.

Brought my 2016 Tacoma in for this 2 weeks ago, they gave me 2017 Tacoma loaner that Toyota paid for. I brought my truck in on a Friday and had it back on Tuesday.

I didn’t have to leave my truck for the part to come in ... they either ordered the odo set a few miles ahead of the mileage at the time I requested the service, or they programmed it on installation. There’s some disagreement whether this is in fact possible. I didn’t notice the exact mileage at either order or install, but if they just guessed, they guessed pretty close. Took 2-3 days to get the part and I left it for a 1/2 day to install. And I’m pretty sure they really did change it, as I’ve had no recurrence since.

No reoccurrance? How often was this happening to you?
