Hey fellas, does anyone know if they make a decent carpet kit for the 1st gens? Mine is pretty gross. Previous owners smoked and never cleaned them much.
    Any advice would be helpful

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Ask @gunny1005 if OE sets might still be available.

If not, a wrecking yard is an option. Pressure washing on a hard surface can make a lot of dirt go away. Of course it won't fix wear points.

Someone like ACC carpets has them too. https://www.accmats.com/commerce/1999/Toyota/Tacoma/Flooring/16554/

My past experience with ACC tells me I'd prefer OE material, even if a little more. But the ACC is 'ok', especially if you'd consider selling the truck in a couple of years, or you're easy on it and use good floor mats. OTOH, their quality may have improved since I last had some of their products too.

I have used the carpet kits from stock interiors many times. They give you more than enough carpet overage. When I do mine I put down additional Jute padding through out, others use other types of padding/silencing materials, I use jute just because I have leftover rolls from my carpet installs on my rental units.
The biggest problem you are going to have is locating and making the holes in the carpet for the seat and seat belt bolts. The carpet does not really lay flat, there are lots of curves and bumps that have to be manipulated to get the carpet down... putting it in the sun for few hours before really loosens it up and makes it more pliable. The center console cuts are hyper critical... there isnt much room for error in making these cuts. A new sharp blade will makes things go much easier.

From stockinteriors.com. I put in a couple of months ago. Same problem, got the truck from a smoker. Don't mind the mess. if you look at the passenger pic, the rug looks closer to that one than the others. The pic of the driver side had a flash and made the black look real light. I have the mass backing and it's a lot thicker than stock (a lot harder to work with too). Take your time when you are installing. especially around the center console. I have an extended cab and just never got around to changing the rear covers to black as seen in one of the photos, but the kit does come with rug to cover them. Looking at the stock carpet I don't really think the mass backing is needed. It's nice to have, but if you order the kit without it that would be more like the stock carpet. Advice is to remove ALL trim panels touching the carpet kit. It's not a simple cut and tuck underneath job.

Any change in cabin noise with the mass backing? Rockauto has some with and without, and appear to be pre-molded, but who knows.

I bought a relatively clean carpet from the Pick-n-Pull and powerwashed it. Paid a whole $7.

Big difference from the biohazard that used to be in my new project truck with 442,000 miles.

To Garwood: Slightly quieter, Don't really need the mass backing.

To Glamisman: Wet okele sells pretty good seat covers as an alternative to an upholstery kit and they add a layer of padding so makes the seats a lot more comfortable. I'm actually changing them to a darker gray middle and they hooked me up with some extra materials to match the door panels.
