Let me add to that by saying if gm made a MT 1500 that’s where my money would be but Toyota has the market for sure

    I just traded my
DCSB M/T for DCLB and am damn happy about it. I have no idea what everyone is crying about with this AT

I like to hunt for my own gear. Don't want the truck to do it for me!

I hear ya. This is my first auto ever. Owned a WRX, Forester, 1st Gen taco. All manual.

I got the DCSB For the MT. However, every time I looked at my truck it didn’t look like a truck to me. I saw a combination of that old Ford Explorer truck and a Subaru Baja. I really hated the SB. I felt like I was basically driving a Subaru with much shittier gas mileage. My opinion of course. To each his/her own.

No argument from me! I got the AC because I need more room for stuff than people.

Reason I got the Taco was the MT and I'm only 35, well now 36. I never even drove the AT, but if I wanted a AT I would have looked A LOT closer to a full size and even a Tundra

I did for a minute. I enjoy the extra 6 or so MPG. And I’m not towing stuff.

It’s great that toyota gives us choices. Plus, what else would people argue about on TW? :)

How's acceleration in comparison with the MT, since you were able to experience both?

I quite frankly don’t understand what all the fuss is about. I love the A/T. It accelerates quickly and effecieny. Plus, 1st gear in MT was weak. Both versions are amazing trucks. The shitting on AT here is kinda funny.

That good to know man, yea I was wondering because I saw a YouTube video of the fast lane truck where they did a 0-60 "drag" against a 5 speed auto 3.6L jeep wrangler, against a 3rd Gen 6 speed Automatic Taco, both times the taco was faster by a sec., I was actually surprised because my wife owns a jeep and I was thought how in tune the transmission was and how much power it seemed I had off the line, and with all the shit the auto taco gets here, I thought before I saw that video that the taco had zero chance. Good info to ponder upon. I have the MT and I also feel it's very weak off the line. 1st and 2nd are chore gears after that the taco shines. Just my opinion.

1st and 2nd are for pulling loads, not accelerating. :annoyed:

Never understood the love for MT. I am way beyond the need to move levers. It does nothing to improve the driving experience and is something of the past. I assume that the same people who are loving the MT would have been the same people that thought that the manual crank to start your motor was superior to that new fangled electric starter.

If you've ever driven a 2nd gen Tacoma auto you may understand what the fuss is about. Because of the gearing and max torque at higher RPM, the 3rd gen feels "weak" initially.

For the most part, guys coming from another brand see no issue with it nor should they. Other's have found that ECT and S mode give them a better feel all around.

When I was looking at a 3rd gen, I didn't like the hunting/constant shifting. The salesman said "it will learn how you drive." I wanted to say "then it will learn never to go into high gear then..." He, too, suggested ECT and S mode, but I felt like, look, if every time I get in this thing I'm going to have to solve this Rubik's cube puzzle of a transmission, then take $3K off and just give me another pedal.

Overall I'm most happy with the gearing of the truck compared to an AT. The AT is just geared way too high for my needs.

I don't believe that for 1 second, most people that drive a Manual also enjoy creature comforts too.

If the auto was geared even REMOTELY similar to the manual your opinion might have some merit. It's all about using the right tool for the job.

We just don't need the "Easy Button" to make the truck go forward.

As for the hand crank, I never had the chance to experience one to be able to verify your view.
