Truck wouldn't start. Starter rebuild

Yep, tapping on it works most of the time. My starter solenoid was also the sorce of my drain on my battery. As far as a rubber piece, I just put a long hose on mine and tucked it into the frame so water would stay out of it on deep crossings. Never had a problem.

 

when it wont start, you might try putting the negitive cable on the battery ,and the other end on the metal on the motor to confirm you have a good ground connection to the motor.

 

Hmm... That's a good idea. Ever since I tapped the starter it's started right up. Next time I'll try that though.

Here's a video I did a few weeks ago that covers the sleeping platform and a bit of the solar setup. I didn't have the fridge mounted at the time, I was sick as hell, and it was cold as hell, but I created a video. I should probably do a better version at some point.

Update: I ended up making all new 1/0 wiring with marine grade tinned connectors including alternator into stock fuse box, replacing my original group 31 deep cycle agm with a group 27 agm, just to have to rebuilt the starter to actually fix the issue.

 

At least your wires are upgraded for future current loads.

Did you purchase one of those starter rebuild kits with the contacts, and that is what fixed the problem?

 

Yep. $35 us For the two contacts and the plunger. I already had upgraded wiring. I cut off the ends and recrimped new tinned connectors wrapped with rubber tape. My original connectors I felt had too big of a hole. I was looking to eliminate the possibility of any faulty connections.

I saw it was your starter, just wanted to note for others that may have the same problem that the cabling can often be the culprit. I replaced everything and still couldn't figure out what the problem was. I finally pulled all the cables and the positive side was corroded for half of it's length. It was very strange because the ends looked fresh on a visual inspection. Once I cut into the cable, it looked like corrosion city.
