In the video, the truck is in 4Lo. Finally filmed after trying for about an hour to get the wheel unlocked.

Honestly, I just need a good stretch of dry pavement. Unfortunately, the temps are going to continue to drop for the next few days.

I have to wait until tomorrow to get a tow truck up there. The upper lodge is closed on weekdays. The tow will have room to get my truck up on a bed. They’ll tow it to the low lands. I’m pretty positive it’ll roll away.

The problem is, I can’t drive my truck in cold weather anymore.

Same thing happened to me back in January. Try and wiggle your parking brake line that runs into the rear drum. Thats what did it for me. Dealer said its because my new leaf springs from the lift doesn't have that little cable bracket, its causing my brake to lock up (which is bullshit in my opinion). Basically when I would release my parking brake, the releasing motion wouldn't travel all the way back to the drum so I had to manually wiggle it myself. Hope this helps

Washington state. This is the 4th or 5th time it’s happened. Took it to the dealership last time. I was told the locked wheel is a result of the type of differential I have to get better tires.

Yus. Lift it at the pumpkin with a garage jack and try to spin or take a hammer to the drum to break ice if there buildup.

They need to replace that brake assembly and drum (if they are too ignorant to diagnose this one) and check the e-brake cable adjustment. Drum brakes have been around forever. Yes, they OCCASIONALLY lock up, but if they had been locking up this regularly for the 100 years they have been used...well, they would never have been used for 100 years.

Seems like they are trying to tell you that you should expect to have to drag the ass end of the truck around for some period just to get it to operate. Insanity. Passenger cars with smooth low rolling resistance tires have NO issue with this. They don't even have a driven rear axle!!

I had this happen a few times in my 1st & 2nd gen. It usually would happen after driving at night when there was moisture and then parking at camp. To minimize it I make sure to not use the emergency brake but then it would still lock up sometimes. Maybe you could pull emergency brake a little bit and let it drag before you parked. It might warm it up enough to remove the moisture.

Your going to have to determine if the parking brake cable is sticking or the shoes are freezing to the drums. If the shoes are freezing have the dealer remove the drum and clean out the drum with brake clean. Then brake clean the shoes and hardware. Lightly sand the shoes with some medium coarse sand paper. Moisture combines with the brake dust to cause the issue. Reinstall and everything should be fine.

If the brake is the problem why does the tire look like it moves a little before it stops rolling?

Drum brakes have a certain amount of backlash due to the self energizing mechanism. Also, there would be a little axle wrap going on as well.

Yeah it definitely wasn't ideal. They would get jammed with dust & sand in the summer time too.

Damn, that's no good. Mine always broke free but it was a 2nd gen, so maybe a bit different.

The 2nd gen has the same brakes as the 3rd gen.

What he do, blow on it? Maybe Toyota will issue the TSB using official hand warmers and duct tape for the drums :)
