Damn, that is pretty good. How I read that is, your oil shows the wear of a truck with 38k on the odo. Nice!

right, I think so too. Ill take it, and swap some out every 50K. I would have swore I cooked it, helping @EddyRRT move his shop from chareston to laurens, hauling a heavy ass trailer, in hot ass weather, going 70-80 :anonymous:

I've done a few drain and fills on my 4runner and relative's tacoma/camry, but waiting to see how this kit they were discussing on another toyota forum plays out....not a debate on what's safer method or not, just appreciate the attempts to engineer around stupid.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-Lexus-Sealed-Transmission-Fluid-Replacement-Kit-/222731930378

Ignoring the lines and fill banjo the main advantage here replaces the plastic overflow tub (length for the proper level at temp check 115-130F) located in the pan with one that does it at a operating temperature. The tubes have to be made for different vehicle models obviously since they will vary, but was wondering why toyota didn't just make the tube check it at operating temp instead of this 115-130 range. I assume it has to do with operating temp varying too much? If so you'd have to do this at similar temp day and similar warm up times.

About the overflow straw, "Yes, its made out of aluminum, and you are right its longer. Also its depends on your car model and year (Engine & Transmission type) .
After drain, fill up new trans. fluid, drive 15 min. park at level and idling for 5 mins, check level at operating temp, open first drain plug and see there is overfill or under fill."

Edit: Posted wrong temp ranges for tacoma.

Hello, I have read through both threads on the flush and may have missed it, but does anyone know the torque specs for the transmission filter bolts? Thank you.

that doesn't seam right... 7lb for the filter... 39INCH lb for pans... thats 3.2LB? did you mean 39LB not inch? im pretty sure they're 10MM headbolts, but the filter in the pan at 7LB, and the 20 pan bolts at 3.2LB?

I just performed the job recently. No problems with those torque specs if you're using a good in.lb torque wrench. 7lb ft for the strainer and 39 in lb for the pan bolts. We are talking about fasteners to aluminum components so it makes a lot of sense. Refer to the torque spec guide if you need reassurance.

Yes, not much torque on those pan bolts. The gasket is rubber and you don't put any sealant on it, torquing too hard may result in a leak.

    None...yet.
Did this today. I have a 2012 TRD Sport w 94k miles. I could never get the AT temp light to come on when I would move the shifter back to Park, though I did get it to come on after the N-D sequence. I went ahead and let it warm up for 25-30 min (it was 40 degrees here in ATL today). Happy to say that the AT temp light came on solid. It was about 2/3 quart low, but didn't smell burnt and was not too dark. So just an FYI, still works even though you may not get the light on for 2 seconds when you shift it back to P as the instructions describe.

Would it be ok to use that since you’re technically mixing it with the oem fluid... unless you’re dropping the pan and changing all the fluid

I did a drain/fill with it last April. No issues so far. I have about 2/3 WS, 1/3 Maxlife in my transmission. A full exchange is probably better, but I don't think it'll hurt anything. I'm gonna do another drain/fill soon.

I gotcha. I’m sure if you do enough drain/refills, you’ll get all max life in there lol

I flushed it with WS about 20k ago. I'm just gonna do an annual drain/fill to keep the fluid fresh.

Fortech! Thank You, You're a good writer, Great Photos and Video, and have helped a bunch of people with this post. I just wanted to ask if you have any other thoughts regarding the newer Generation 3, TRD Sport Trucks that are 4x4, AT, V6's? My truck is a 2017 and I'm wondering if you'd still suggest all the same procedure with the 2017's as you've suggested for the earlier models you've referred to in this thread? Thanks . . . RodeDog!
