Aftermarket Alarm That Works With Power Door Locks

Man, I haven't thought about a Viper alarm since I was 16! Now with a significant investment in aftermarket crap in my Toyota, I'm considering an aftermarket alarm as a first step deterrent.

What alarm should I consider that will replace my stock key fob and work with my power door locks? Will I need some kind of interface between the alarm and my vehicle to make the doors work?

Anything you want. Dei makes viper and is solid. Viper is only 1 of about 10 brands they carry viper just happens to be the flagship. People will say you can get cheaper but you get what you pay for. Are you looking for security and keyless or just keyless? As for needing a module for the locks..... no..... only if you do remote start and have a v6 with an immobilizer.

 

Ok good question. I do want a remote start, and I have a v6, but not sure about the immobilizer?

After a little research, I'm leaning towards the Viper 5305V.

 

Look around your passenger airbag light on the center dash by your ac. If you have a little red car that blinks when you put the key in the ignition and turn it or it blinks at any time ( not running ) then you have 1. Also, you can just look at the key and where the stalk meets the black handle there will be a stamped “G” or “O” on it. It’s little but noticeable once you know what your looking for.

 

I have viper 5706 with smart start .. no issues.

 

I was going to say if the same thing but you beat me to it. I too have the 5706v with SmartStart and have had 0 issues. If you were going to look at a 5305 step up to a better unit an remote. I’ve been installing them for years and that platform with viper is solid. There is a newer platform out so it’s going away but that’s why I also still r3commend and love installing them.

 

Thanks guys. You've helped me a lot. 5706 might be the unit. Does the 5706 with remote start need a separate interface, assuming I have started disable. Sorry I have not had a chance to go check yet.

@Do58 I hate to second guess your answer, but there is a conflicting report on Amazon about remote start working without a bypass module, and Im still not understanding what I have in my Tacoma. I looked for the blinking truck, and I dont have one on the dash. I do have a G stamped on my key.

A question on Amazon asked:
Is this model 5703 work on 2014 tacoma?
Answer: Yes but you would also need a bypass module such as a FLCAN or

$59 DBALL2 Databus All Combo Bypass Module

DBALL2 in order for the remote start to work in that vehicle.


So, based on the G stamped on my key, will I need the bypass for remote start?

If you have the “G” on the key then you do have an immobilizer in the truck and will need a bypass module

 

Compustar/Arctic Star 2 way. My first almost full Winter with it installed & it has performed flawlessly. Then again, the unit (doesn't matter which brand) is only as good as the install. Extremely cold weather plays hell with electronics so with a few months left of Winter, this unit has proven itself. Thanks Jan!
