same here, im not even sure why i was looking these up but i refused to pay 275 bucks for it. I googled it and saw Amazon had it for 84 bucks and i about fell out of my chair...then the rebate on top it was a no brainer.

Just ordered one. I also applied for a Amazon visa and got a $40 gift card. That plus the $25 rebate and I am only going to have to pay $20 for the intake! :D
    Thanks again!

    Joseph

BTW after I bought one for myself there was only 1 left that is if it hasn't allready been taken in the time it took me to type this.

well...i got mine today, just got done installing it. The truck does seem to breath better, and this intake is LOUD. I wouldn't say it would be worth 275 bucks, but for 60...no complaints.

pic! is it a true cold air intake or is one side open to the engine compartment?

The link from Amazon is the picture of the intake, it is a 3 sided heat shield.

Glad you didn't order one then....;)

The stock intake does pull air in from the fender, but the cool air never makes it to the manifold. It gets heated up very quickly from the airbox through the intake tubes, just touch the pieces of your intake when you get out of your truck next time they actually get pretty hot.

While the air going into the manifold probably is warmer, the Afe is alot less restrictive. The performance certainly has not suffered, the truck does run better....not by leaps and bounds, but it is noticable.

I just recently took off my open cone filter from my truck. And isntalled my stock intake. Besides being alot quieter the top end is more sluggish on grades.

And I want to see an install picture to see if it does seal to the hood of the truck or not. A true cold air intake is pretty much sealed fom the engine compartment.

I know that for my year truck 02 2.4L's there are not many cold air intakes that are 100% sealed from the engine compartment. I know Volant's intake is on of the best for my tuck. justwodeing if a 60 dollar intake is comparable or not.

I never said i gained any horsepower, i said the truck ran smoother.

My charcoal filter was cut out the first month i purchased the truck.

There is weatherstripping that seals against the hood, but the front portion (facing the front of the truck) is open to allow airflow to the filter. Afe is the maker of the first TRD intakes, they do make a intake system that is a fully sealed box....but that one wasn't on sale.

And this isn't really a 60 dollar intake, we just scored a hell of a deal. MSRP is 288 bucks.

Volant is the number one intake for frontiers (my old truck) but when i was looking at results on the tacoma, they were not that great.

I installed mine last night. It was pretty easy. To be truthfull I don't care much for the whole cold air thing. Sure I would get a little more HP but at what cost to MPG. I am just happy having a less restrictive intake system. Which means better MPG as well as HP.

If I had a closed in heatsheild I would actually want a hose running from my exhaust manifold cover to the filter box.

Boy does my truck get loud at higher rpm's. I am just worried about how it is gonna sound on the interstate. It might get annoying on long distance trips????????????

I have never ridin in a 2.7L so I don't know how similar they are to my 2.4L. And your engine bay is different from mine. Only alittle, did the install kit come with 3 sides???

Alot of intakes will come with only 2 sides and have a STAGE 2 with a screw on 3rd side.

Leer camper shell; afe stage ll intake; 265's bridgestone dueler tires; rockford's power series 6.5's; tint on all windows; semi de-badged; weathertech digitial mats; grillcraft grill; blacked out headlights with eyelids; blacked out badges; and more to come.
Just got mine in today and installed in during lunch. Sounds great, cant tell a whole lot about more power, but I like the looks and the sound. The only problem I had, the coupler that attaches the intake tube to the trottle body was not the right size. They seemed to have sent a 4" or bigger coupler. I luckly had a coupler sitting around the garage that fit perfect. For the money, it was worth the buy....cold air or hot air.

No, warmer air requires less fuel. Also the afe is alot less restrictive not slightly less restrictive than the stock intake. Why would I want a hose running from the exhaust manifold(I should have said exhaust manifold heat sheild) to the intake? to raise the temperature of the air going into the intake for better MPG. HP is no where near as important to me as MPG. I will do no mod that will sacrifice MPG for more HP.

So far my plans are to replace my stock fan with a Zirgo electric fan and eventually have a new exhaust system. Most likely a Gibson. Both will give the truck HP as well better MPG.
