jacking on a slight grade

hi all looking for some "best practices" advice

jacked up previous vehicles plenty of times, but never in the garage i have now and never a truck

garage sits at a slight slope, and just where the rear axle sits, that slope increases. This is a DCLB

so couple days ago i was giving it a first try. Move in the jack from the rear and jacked from the rear diff housing where manual indicates. i chocked my fronts but at the front, not the back.

bought some 6 ton big red's w/ double locker, put those in place on the frame rails in front of the rear wheels

lowered slowly, testing. Did it again, testing.

and there is just enough slope to where the truck started rolling the roller jack backwards. This is because the jack, coming in from the back, sits on the lip at the opening of the garage with increased slope

so what appears to be the obvious solution is chocking the front wheels at both the front and back. To prevent rolling forwards into the garage wall, and prevent rolling back.

makes me a bit nervous, wondering if there is a chocking solution that would better immobilize the front wheels

Put some pennies behind the casters on your garage jack.

 

any beefier solution?

 

Can you park it somewhere flat?

That way you'd be jacking off a slight grade.

Place something under the jack that increases the friction between wheels and the surfacr its on. Maybe a hard rubber mat similar to something like the OEM bed mat?

 

It's normal for a floor jack to roll backwards, as it goes down, when the other end of the truck does not roll. Regardless, I still wouldn't crawl under a truck on jackstands on a sloped surface.

 

best practice would be to park so the nose of the truck is uphill if you need to work on the rear, downhill if youre working on the front. Engage 4x4, move it into the spot, and then pull the handbrake as far up as it will go. Chock the wheels on the ground on the side facing down the driveway, lift from the bottom of the driveway, and lift it to the intended height on just the jack first to make sure it doesnt roll away, then put jackstands in and slowly drop the truck onto the stands. Leave the jack in place just in case but you should be fine with that
