I replaced my plastic filter housing with the metal one pictured below. A 5/8” ID tubing will fit around the filter bleeder valve and decrease oil spillage.

As far as wearing gloves is concerned, everyone has the ability to do as they please. To say that a person is less of a man or inexperienced because of it is astonishing. We should take preventive measures when working with known carcinogens especially when they list it in the bottle. Out of the 80,000 chemicals used in our country, only 1% have been tested for safety. Hopefully this will change with the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act. Wear gloves and other protective measures when working on your vehicles and with other chemicals. Do your research, we live in a digital age where information is at our fingertips. Don’t fall victim to memes like this.

Check your bottles, wear gloves. Pictures listed below are of motor oil, gear oil, transmission fluid and brake parts cleaner.

    This guy labels.

I honestly wear gloves because its easier to clean up and can help with grip. I dont have to scrub my hands with lava soap or use a nail brush. The fact that it could prevent me from getting cancer is a big plus though.

Yeah I don't understand the need to upgrade the stock filtration, Even one of the valves. Just loosen the drain bolt haha. But to each their own, gloves, Baxter, fumotoma, who cares, let's just all agree not to let the damn dealers touch our trucks. :drunk:

There's no actual "need" to upgrade the stock filtration, the oem plastic is good nuff and should last as long as the vehicle with proper handling. But I upgraded my filter housing to one pictured on post #61 because I like the better quality, better feel and better oil cooling (via-metal vs plastic heat transfer) it offers.

As for not letting the dealers touch our vehicles, that maybe good for the welfare of the vehicle of those that are able to take matters into their own hands. I know that's what I do. But for the rest that have no choice, they might also want to be more careful and scrutinize whose hands they hand off their golden baby to.
    How so?

Here's the thing, to us owners it's a $40k cash outlay, but to the guy doing an oil change, it's only worth the $7.50 he'll make changing that nasty grimy stuff. You do the math :D

    Cheers!

...^^^.... I replaced mine with this aluminum housing and got the special oil filter wrench and I NEVER let ANYONE touch my oil & filer ... but me.

That plastic housing seemed to "balloon expand" when tighten too much and made it hell to get off.

In my whole life ... I have only found one dealer .... a Honda dealer (Gwinnett Place Honda) that did excellent oil changes.

Good point. Dealers have to squeeze in vehicles that broke down and were towed in for service. They also have to take care of customers who recently purchased their vehicle and drove in to the dealer to have their vehicle inspected. This is all on top of service appointments and other things. Could be a hectic day and service techs will be rushed. Mistakes will happen and things will
be overlooked. We all take shortcuts in our personal lives and at work. Why would this scenario be any different? Its the nature of the business.

That would be best thing to do but not all of can or are physically able to do so. For those people who can't take care of it themselves, I'm simply recommending to research the repair facility, ask neighbors, family member or friends if they know a good technician to take their vehicles to because it's your money, you valuable life line, your tool to get to work and do everything you need to do.
Or at least for some of us who don't have access to public transportation or Uber. It's our horse on the farm, our life-line, we ought to look after it like we would that horse on a farm.

I have had it for awhile now. Installs easy and filter has about 2" of clearance to the skid plate. Very happy with it.

It could also be because we don't want to pay the price. Good mechanics are expensive.

If I go with the metal version pictured above, what else would I need? Any nuts? Do most (non Toyota) mechanics have the tool to do an oil change on this metal version or do I need to buy that too and keep it in the truck for the "just in case"? I don't plan on doing my own oil changes yet, but also want security and durability.

It is the same exact version of your plastic filter canister. Nothing special required other than Toy640 Filter Wrench to remove filter canister.

You can put them on by hand and snug. When removing during the the next oil change, you need a wrench to remove them. Happens all the time
