THank god for this thread. Literally happend to me on my way to work and parked to read what to do and sure as shit couldn’t get it out of park. So fortunately I only had 1 fuse blow and it was a 10 under the hood EFI I think? B63F1F8E-F424-49B1-BD30-98D46FFDB2F2.jpg

I have this same issue. Brake, traction control, and ABS lights. They started coming on intermittently. Now they occasionally go off intermittently - on most of the time. When they're on, the ABS and traction control don't function.

This issue is different than the one in the original post.

Thank God for TW!... I was scratching my head with the same problem. I had the ABS and traction light showing on the dash and my shifter would suddenly not allow me to shift out of Park. I originally thought that it was one of my ABS front sensors going out, but then the shifter started to act up. I literally had to keep hitting that thing to get it out of Park before I found out about the button bypass. I ended up checking all the fuses to see if one was blown but they all looked intact. I tested the brake light switch by pressing on the pedal and I could see that the brake lights were coming on, so at that point I decided just to remove the brake light switch and check it by repeatedly pressing and releasing it. It turns out that the switch looked like it was working but ended up stuttering intermittently on the lights and wasn't consistent. I replaced the switch and everything went back to normal.

bumping the thread so I apologize guys. I’m having the same issue now . I’ll be working on it this weekend but I’m wondering if replacing the 3rd brake light with a custom smoked housing that contains a strip of LEDs is causing mine

I just ran into the same issue after installing a Bulletproof lift for a customer.(Little background info, I install lifts for a living and its mostly Tacomas. Battery was disconnected at the start of install and abs wire was disconnected and set aside in a safe place at the start as well) Never had the lights go on and off intermittently before, still shifts and drives but the abs and traction control lights go on and off. Truck has a 3" body lift on it as well. I know its not everyone's style but its what this customer wanted. so has anyone experienced the lights go on and off with what seems like no other issues?

I'm having these issues- checked sensors and the front passenger was dirty but still didn't fix the issue right away. Checked a bunch of fuses but will check that EFI 1 again. Also will see if brake lights work. The lights went off briefly during my drive to work today but came back on.

EDIT: Okay so I didn't clean the 'teeth' inside the hole the sensor came out of- maybe it just got dirty again.

I had traction control and abs light come on last year after getting alignment. It came on after I parked truck at work with wheels turn to the left. When I got home I parked in garage with wheels straight. Turned truck off for a few minutes. Started it up and Trac and abs lights were off. Never had problem since.

I am also having the intermittent ABS and skid light issue on my '09 TRD sport. Sensors look clean - should I take them apart and clean/lube them and put them back? I will check the stop switch (underneath dash on the physical brake pedal arm, right?) and the fuses as well. Thank you.

Would just like to add that my abs light and trac light came on, ended up being a bad wheel bearing, there was some pretty serious play in the bearing.

I just had this happen. 10 amp stop fuse blew under the hood.

Traction control & ABS light on. Wouldn’t shift out of park and no brake lights.

    THANK YOU TW!!!

So, now the fun task of figuring out why it blew.

Do any of you run a truck cap? I know mine blows when the wires ran from my breaks to my 3rd breath light on the truck cap ground out of touch it blows the fuse instantly. This is due to my shitty diy wiring. But at least I know what causes it for me.

    I have a similar problem
ABS and Traction lights on periodically, and will randomly go out
Difficult to shift out of park, most reliable method has been to pump the brakes like a mad man
Brake lights are not reliable but do come on sometimes
Brakes feel as they always have, however after repeated pumps, the pedal will travel much farther than usual
All fuses test ok, and most have been swapped (at least the ones mentioned in this thread)

Where to next? The brake switch is my next thought. Any other ideas?

    TIA

I was having the same problem with the ABS and traction control lights randomly coming on resulting in my 09 Tacoma not wanting to shift out of park. I looked at all the fuses mentioned previously in this thread and all were in tact. Finally, I tried one last fuse that is related to the ABS. It's the STOP fuse under the hood. It's a 50 amp fuse. It wasn't actually blown, but I cracked up the casing trying to get it out so I bought a new one. The new one has donut shaped piece of metal making the connection instead of a thin arc. I've had no problems since! Since this was an intermittent issue, I waited several weeks before posting this just to make sure the issue has been resolved. Best $4.99 I ever spent!

This is happening to me. Seems like the traction and ABS (but not Brake) lights are coming on every other time I drive the truck.

It's not random. If they are on, they won't be the next time the truck is started, and vice versa. I Googled the problem, and low brake fluid was suggested as a cause. I suppose I'll check that along with the fuses mentioned.
