I had this one that i used a few times and it worked great. Although on the third time using it over a month or two period (without charging in between) it wouldn't fully jump the vehicle. But as long as you just make sure it's topped off between uses they work amazing.

    Might be a stupid question....
Do these things need a battery present to work? Would disconnecting my battery and hooking this to the cables be a valid test?

At Groove we have had 4 of those jumper packs blow up. In all 4 cases they were trying to jump start a completely dead (less than 4volts) v6 or larger. I think 2 were on 4.0l Tacoma and 2 were on 5.7 Tundra. I was there for 2 of them as we were comparing those new ones to my monster Snap-on jump box. The 2 that blew up with me there were the same brand at different times (same owner as the 1st one was warrantied). The Snap on jumper box was able to jump the vehicle that blew up the lithium without issue. One of the 3 blew up while driving a truck in without a battery, just the jumper box (I think there are instructions that state don't leave connected to the vehicle once running so it could be operator error)

    +compact
    +lightwight
    +alternative USB power source (most)
    +alternative flashlight (most)
    +USB charging (most)
+not stuck in the vehicle (compared to 2nd battery)

-deep discharge is very difficult for the unit to jump start on larger engines
-additional charging maintenance if only stored in a vehicle
-can't be used as an additional power source should main battery completely fail

So, If I was buying one of those I would make sure it has overload protection and reverse polarity protection. It looks like that NOCO does

*disclaimer* I said blow up, I mean the soft case battery on the inside went through rapid expansion and broke the casing of the jumper apart. The unit ceased to function, there was no fire but it was hot to the touch.

    Oil change interval question:

Since I drive the Tacoma so little now I do not reach the 3000 mile interval until 6 or 7 months. It's always recommended "3000 miles or 3 months which ever comes first."

The date I "should" have changed my oil is 10/15/17. It's now 2/20/18 and I'm still only 2000 of 3000 miles into the interval.

Should I change the oil based on the calendar moving forward or mileage?

IMO... and endless discussions online are that the 3k mile/3 month oil change is from days past. You should follow the interval in your owners manual... for light use, there shouldn't be any reason 5-6k intervals are bad. You can also look/smell the oil and get a good idea of how worn it is.

I would change your oil every 3k miles or 12 months. They have better detergents than oils of the past, don't typically get as acidic as past oils. Going 5k miles on your truck is ok also. High mileage oils have extra conditioners to help keep oil seals soft.
