I Bluetooth my 64 gb iPhone for the Taco! (no muss, no fuss). If the Battery gets low, I can plug it in the USB to charge.

I still have my Classic 80Gb iPod, but pretty well leave it hooked up to my home stereo or bring it camping.

Got 6 months extra of XM, but won't bother renewing.

This is good info but confirms that the Thumb Drive won't do what I want either capacity (9999 files) or function (no playlist recognition). A dedicated iPhone may be the best way.

It does have its limitations. I have just over 200 albums (approx. 1800 files) on a 32GB USB drive, so it works for me.

USB works for me too. I have a CD to MP3 converter. From there I can add ID tags to the file using my own album artwork and done...

It's a work in progress as I add files weekly. With 1800 CDs it will take a bit.

I use one of those super tiny usb drives as well. I simply found my iTunes folder on my computer and copied and pasted it over. I know some are anti-Apple so you will need to follow the file format posted by others previously.

One of the HUGE pluses of these drives is they are almost flush when installed in the port so there is no hitting and damaging either the drive or the port.

Grab a Linux desktop and download Rythmbox. It will let you add & edit metadata (artist, album, etc.) Then add a 120 gb SSD with external enclosure connected via USB & formatted as FAT32. Stick it to the side of console with double sided tape , high bit rate music! 75GB OF music and 8500 songs. Music for everyone & every place. My favorites are Classic Rock & 80s Metal bands.

    thanks for that. mod-worthy.

i have a TB drive about half full with high bit rate, mostly 320mp3's. that would be so easy, i think I'll try this.

Make sure the external HDD is formatted as FAT32, SSD are better and read faster. Otherwise the radio won't read it.

You can actually have two USB drives connected simultaneously, using a cheap hub. (I use this one with two of the tiny 64GB sticks - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V4GC2X2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Doing this gives you double the file capacity (9999 x 2) since each drive is treated as a separate source.
Still not quite the most ideal solution, but at least I have ALL of my music at my fingertips with this method.

same one I am using. songs crank from USB, so I put the songs I like to listen to loudly on this.
You can't even notice it's in the slot, so just leave it there 24/7.

    I have the scandisk 32gb stick.20180222_072414.jpg

No wires or dongle to get in the way. You can even flip the switch cover upside down then install to make it even less intrusive.

Thousands of songs searchable by album, artist or song title.

    Works for me.

I moved my USB port into my glove box. Maybe that would work for you for a cleaner install (read: hide yo music)

    Great mix of music!
