    I also have this issue.

Your steps are 100% repeatable for me, but I have also had it happen when just playing music through Apple Music with bluetooth as well.

The Siri Eyes Free (pushing and holing the make a call button on the steering wheel) is always the cause.
I use that feature a lot too! Especially for Apple Music (being able to push a button on the steering wheel and say "Play the Rolling Stones" is fantastic, except for the crashes.)

I don't know who to blame for this, Apple or Toyota?

same problem. Bluetooth for audio then try to make a call through the phone, using Siri or not, and it crashes the stereo

They fed you a line on the video podcast being too much data. That is complete farce. No video would even be sent over a bluetooth audio connection anyway!

Again, I'm still not sure who to blame here - Either Toyota or Apple have screwed up the implementation of the Bluetooth spec somewhere along the line.
Or maybe they both have ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is what causes it for me. A few times per week at least. I'm ready to make the jump to the Alpine ILX-107 to get wireless carplay. I just need to figure out how easily it will work with my JBL stuff.
