And while we are talking about values, here’s an important lesson that I learned the hard way. I purchased these two cars off of eBay twenty years ago-ish. I was a fairly new collector and didn’t perform any due diligence before clicking the “place bid” button. While a keen eye can see the tampering in these smart phone photos I couldn’t see it back then. After paying and receiving the shipping notice did I actually check up on the “Pearl Driver” series of cars. First thing I should have noticed is that they both were on the exact same card, #2 of 4. Two different castings in a series won’t come on the same card. And low and behold, no Porsche cars were in that series at all. So long story short, I got ripped off-ish. Why the ‘ish?’ Because I learned a very valuable lesson and ended up with two cars that hadn’t seen before.



There are references out there, there is an online wiki that give a considerable amount of information allowing you to make better informed purchases of older cars. There are unscrupulous sellers out there and odds are you will come across a few of them, so before you do so, read, look at pictures, ask other collectors what they think of the pictures and what it’s represented as. I keep these as tokens of my ignorance and to remind myself that no matter how great the deal is, if I don’t know for certain about the car and any packaging in question then I have to take a knee and learn. You may miss some deals from time to time as the internet is a very fluid marketplace, but you may miss some scams as well saving you both money and frustration.

I have a few redline bugs I bought on ebay just to get them and see that they were repaint. did a good job but not original. it was all in the way he had it worded. like you lesson learned.
