So I'm looking to build telescopic mast camp light for my trailer. It would look like a couple of LED pods on a painters pole or light bulb changer. I'd like to use some kind of coiled cord for the part that goes up and down but have only found 20 awg cigarette lighter socket stuff.
Any issues with buying a decent coiled extension cord and cutting the ends off for my 12v needs? I can't foresee issues but though I'd ask since I'm no expert.

    Thanks

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
I may be wrong here , but I think it is the AWG
wire size that is the important issue. the only other thing is that you would have an extra wire to contend with. AC is usually white/black/green Or non coated in place of the green (ground wire). DC is usually red/black. AC extension cords are usually stranded wire (for strength and flexibility) and -- DC-- solid single strand?

Yes, coiled extension cord will work fine. You can even leave the 3 prong plugs intact and connect a short 3 prong pigtail to your power source and to your lights. That way, the coiled cord is still usable for 110.

I have a coiled 110 cord going between 2 magnetic towing lights.
