Hello fellow forum members. I have been reading a little here lately and must say this site is extremely helpful.
I have read a thread with a link to what I believe is a description from a manual with instructions for adjusting the hood latch. I have hood rattle. I adjusted the rubber stops but the latch needs to come down some. [I believe a description of my truck is in my signature]. If new bolts are needed can anyone tell me where they got them and exactly what is needed? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I should add that the reason stated for needing new bolts is that the stock bolts are ''tapered centering'' bolts, which they are. The link to the manual said to replace them with straight bolts and washers.

    Where is this link?

I don't think it is needed to replace the bolts. I've never replaced them whenever adjusting a hood latch.

    Cylinder head - Yes.
Hood or door latch - No. Unless there is something wrong with it ( stripped threads ).

I don't know how to post a link, but it was definitely in a discussion on this forum. The stock bolts are tapered near the head, so when you try to adjust the latch, when you tighten the bolts, the taper self centers the latch and puts it right back where it was. There seems to be very little room for adjustment as it is anyway even if standard bolts were used. The instructions I mentioned earlier was in a thread about hood rattle I believe. I will try to figure out how to post a link. I would think someone on here has had to replace these bolts, as hood rattle and the necessary latch adjustment seems to be a common issue and has been discussed before. Thanks again. [This is on a 2008 Tacoma.] Here is the link:

    It's probably either 6×1.0 or 8×1.25

Both can be found at a hardware store

Now I understand what you mean. It isn't a tapered bolt it is a centering bolt.

You should be able to go to any good hardware store and use one of the centering bolts as a guide to get the correct match.

Thank you. I just didn't know if Toyota sold these. I am sure I can find some at a hardware store. Hopefully there will be enough adjustment range to stop the rattle, it seems like I may be able to move the latch down 1/16th to 3/32nds at most, with new bolts that is.
