    Hey all,

I'm new to the forums and to Tacoma's. I recently bought a 2000 Toyota Tacoma 3.4L V6, I live in Canada but the vehicle is originally from California (140,000 Miles). I love the truck it's in great shape.

This past weekend I pulled a bozo move and dented my driver side fender against a parkade pole (see pics). I'm wanting to get this back in order but am not sure how close to original condition I will be able to get it. I have a buddy who is good at PDR, and he is going to give it a shot.

I'm guessing I may get most of the dent out and back to normal but will need to do some touch up paint work and replace the decal.

Based on your experience, what do you think? How close will I come to getting this back to normal?

    Thanks for your time!

How cheap do you want to go? Can't tell if the angle is making it look worse than it is, but it looks bad enough to just get a new fender. I think a bold body guy could simply use some bondo and do a blend for like $100 but that'd take some artistic touch to match the fender shape.

I can tell you from my short time at a lower end body shop a fender replacement for something like this would be ~$50 wholesale part + ~40-50% markup, 1.0hr R+I labor @ $50-60, 2-4hr (depends on car) $40-50 paint & finish + mats at a fixed rate. Should come out to about ~$250-300. A catch could be matching the fade of the other body parts. If enough clear burned off the new paint might give an unnatural sheen to the new fender. That would simply be a paint match to resolve. Not a big concern.

If you want to redneck it, you can get a brand new front aftermarket fender primed in black for like $50-$60 or cheaper if you look around and then buy aftermarket paint match (like this - not sure if it's the right one, just an example, double check 10 times first) and some quality clear coat. I believe something like 2-3 cans each of paint + clear + grey primer would do it. Account for temperature. If you want the emblem, can buy aftermarket replacement and apply it right before the last stage of clear. If you buy really cheap crap, you might be able to do this whole thing for $100. Durability and longevity I have no promises on. :)

Alternatively, if you have wreck yards nearby you could also look for a white fender to match. Might be worth it to look out of county and drive to get one as well.

You could possibly get an OEM '00 fender from a part-out vehicle for a killer price.

    Thanks Armedine.

I wouldn’t mind spending the money to have it done right. My concern with a replacement fender is that, as you mentioned, the colour may not match. I’ve heard that white is especially difficult to match.

Would you feel confident in having the shade of white match 90-95% ?

The rest of the body is in good shape and colour doesn’t seem to have faded much.

    Appreciate your thoughts!

judging from the marks and shadows, it looks to be quite a big dent, so don't bother to fix it, get it changed

if it's not too bad of a dent:
remove the fender (quite easy : 4-5 bolts and you'll also need to remove bumper as well: 4 bolts), then tap the dent with a rubber mallet to push it back out

PDR guys can do some amazing things, I'd definitely try it. I had a huge dent in the middle of my 13,Tacos front right fender and I was all bummed out thinking I needed a new fender and paint blending, getting ins involved etc etc. I called a PDR guy just to see if he could do anything and 1 hour and a hundred bucks later you couldn't even tell. It was about the size of a football and 2 inches deep. I was amazed when he was done and I'm a perfectionist. Amazing work is all I can say.

Let your friend try and pop it out. Cut, buff and polish and see how it looks. It will probably only cost a few beers lol.
A auto body paint supply shop can color match it by chipping off some of the old fenders paint and match it really really close. They can make a touch up bottle or pump it into a aerosol can.
You could try and paint the panel and cross your fingers. The guy who sold my girlfriend her 2000 white Tacoma did this on the front passenger fender and it's really close, but not a 100% match...
Another option is to paint it super white 040 and have them blend it into the next panels which is hard and expensive.

Can't even tell in this picture.

This is what I did. I didn't have money to get it fixed so I made it hilarious. Gives it character.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I’m going to have my PDR buddy give it a shot next weekend and see what he can do. If it still looks awful I will swap out the fender and paint blend, etc. If I go that route I will also have to redo the 3M :(

I’ll keep you posted on how I do!

    Cheers

Off topic but are those 3rd Gen TRD decals on the bedsides? Looks pretty slick on a 1st Gen

I'm actually not sure about the decals, the previous owner had them on. If I had to guess I would say that they are original from 2000.

On the topic of decals, does anyone know where to find the TRD decal that I have on my front fenders? I scoured eBay and couldn't find them.

    Thanks frizzman.

That isn’t the exact same decal though, mine has grey shadow in it as well.

Does anyone have a link to a video showing how to remove and replace the front fenders? I bought my Tacoma back in 2008 and this recently started happening on the passenger side... I am curious if the previous owner had some work done to it… I was planning on purchasing a replacement fender off of rock auto5222DACF-4EFB-4319-8009-7C2D474D04D7.jpg C7A18043-F441-4EA1-9006-D29DC6145097.jpg EA93C6BE-73E6-411B-8DEC-0352445010C6.jpg

    Hey all,

Quick update, I had my PDR buddy work on it over the weekend and I think he did a pretty decent job:

There are still a few small scratches which I've touched up with some paint. I think I may cover them up with a replacement TRD decal.
