We can talk at LBL. Requiring more maintenance depends on things like components, tune, power level, install, etc .... not specifically turbo vs supercharger. It's a fact turbos are more efficient. A SC is powered by the motor. It takes power to make power in this instance. Its attached to the crank shaft so can only spin as fast as the engine rpms. It makes "more power" down low because as soon as the engine makes power, so does it. It also doesn't build full boost until redline because, once again, it's dependant on engine rpms. This also limits its boost capability because, once again, it's limited by engine rpms (5500 in my case)

A turbo is driven by exhaust gases and creates zero parasitic draw from the engine. Turbos can spin like 50k rpms or some crazy shit. Length and size of charge piping (intercooler pipes), size of compressor housing (Turbo) and size of exhaust (the less restrictive the faster the spool) to specially fit your needs can make a turbo almost as good as a SC at 1500 rpms and extremely more efficient every where else. The key being how soon it can reach full boost while causing no added work to the engine.

(Made up numbers) So a SC adds 100whp by 1k rpms but peaks at adding 130whp by 5500 rpms where a turbo adds 100whp by 2300 rpms but peaks at adding 250whp by 5500 rpms with the same boost level.

SCs inherently make the motor less reliable then turbos because it's generally not hp that kills engines at low rpms, it's torque. Where people get in trouble with a turbo is cranking the boost up but even then, get away from low rpms before cranking that boost and you will be much better off. Rods are usually what like to go at low rpms. They bend and/or snap from too much pressure. Torque tapers off at higher rpms when hp comes into play and the efficiency of the head is put to the test. So a SC and turbo, both running 8 psi, the SC puts more stress on the block in low rpms and puts more stress on the engine throughout the rpm range where a turbo does neither and makes more power on the top end.
