Probably low? That shop looks pretty high end with it's builds.

Also the tune was 400 dollars. I guess it's possible they just used OVTune's and are just installing it in every truck they do.

    Is that possible with OVT?

I edited my response. Initially I said they would be losing money if they were just buying OVT for whatever the price is and selling it with labor for 400. But I wasn't sure if you could just use the same hardware you get to install the tune and then place the same file in however many trucks you want.

What prevents someone with an OVT tune from giving it for free to all of his buddies are bunch of guys going in on it?

I would like to step in here a moment and make it very clear we are not stealing any tunes. The price for our tune is lower likely because we don't send you any hardware. The tune has to be performed here in person and we are unable to ship any cables out to customers.

Can you guys elaborate on your development process? The truck used for development? How you defeated toyotas SMART system transmission shifting structure?

Same. not asking for proprietary info here. Just some feedback for peace of mind and that due diligence was done when developing the tune...and for the customers of course.

Well this thread was informative... So who's this "third" party tuner that's apparently in house to adjust tunes? Maybe a little background of the tuner and what other projects they have worked on would shed some comfort.

I don't think the accusatory tone here is needed. We offer tuning for many platforms. I don't know who OVtunes is, and didn't know he existed until now. We don't modify trucks regularly. It's not a core part of our business (see instagram and facebook), but we do hope to see more of these come in. We simply offer tuning services that our tuner can provide, our tuner is Steve Pearson who tunes for fabspeed and other shops in our area. After getting in touch with our tuner in regards to this thread, it seems the two know each other and respect each others work. And as for the initial development of the tune all I can say is that it was done on a 16 Tacoma in Florida.

Honestly, we became aware that we could tune this platform and reached out to no vtec 4me since we had done his lift and offered to tune his car in exchange for feedback. This is his feedback and we only became members 2 days ago because people were insinuating the tune was stolen.

If one of you guys is in our area and you're still on the fence, come down and drop the car off we'll offer a small discount to prove ourselves.

He's asking for a little more clarification about features, history of the tune, etc. It's not like hes wants an email with the complete tune ROM files attatched. For something this critical that is the heart of the truck, a little more information about the tune would help ease some peoples minds. Just my .02

I see where you are coming from, but my .02 is that there is a lot of work to be done on the OVT with incomplete releases being tossed out. Not many details of that have been clearly posted or even clearly updated for a quite expensive tune. It seems disingenuous for them to be slinging mud in this thread?

You should also note ovtunes current 1.02 release is in ALPHA stage aka not final version. Gearone is advertising as finished tune. Thats the difference

Also 1.03 notes were posted last night going into complete detail on everything he did in his tune. 1.03 is expected to release sometime today. Also i “believe” 1.03 will be the final version.

My experience with OVT has been outstanding and while I honestly have never looked at his releases as incomplete, but rather constantly evolving and improving. This gave me the opportunity to start enjoying my truck over 6 months ago after several months of frustration. My first file got me measurable power gains, improved fuel maps, smoothed out the overall engine and transmission performance, and made massive improvements to throttle performance. Nothing was incomplete about this for the scope of the tune at that time. The scope of the tune has grown with each release to include tuning of different maps across the ECU/TCU to add in VVT angles, shifting enhancements, etc., but I've never felt the tune was incomplete in any way based on what had been committed.

That said, I do agree that having a competitive landscape is almost always in the consumers best interest but what raised so much suspicion was the lack of any further details around the tune itself in terms of what it was designed to accomplish and how it achieved that at least in summarized terms. Mat has clearly been working on this as his primary project for the better part of the last year and has only recently been able to address the SMART transmission logic to address the learning so i'm sure it was a head scratcher when this came across as a one-off from a company not known for tuning (without knowing the 3rd party tuners name) who had seemingly solved overnight (like magic) all of what took @OVTune many months of testing and even the purchase of an R&D truck to address

With these additional details perhaps the confrontational tones were unwarranted but folks do get protective of IP and the skepticism is easy to understand. Good luck to both @GearOneMarc and @OVTune ! I'm glad Mat was in the game early enough to keep me from selling my truck last year though!!!

A finished tune for half the price? That has a lot of appeal to me.

I'm on the MT side and nothing has been updated that didn't cause another problem, not to mention the sliding dates. The last release had documented misfires. The current release has stuttering and stumbling with blame being laid on something in the stock tune, though folks are confirming it is a new issue. . .

I remain on the fence and look more forward to a local shop that I could work with.

Like I said, it is just my opinion.

This truck has documented misfires STOCK. documented stuttering and ignition issues stock. This has been an issue since the beginning and I can't even count how many times people have told me their STOCK trucks misfire and stutter. It's been a continual fight of trying to address and fix this problem that does exist on STOCK trucks.

That is exactly why my tune is continually updated. To say that you have all of this fixed in a first and finished release... would mean you know the calibration better than Toyota..who created it.

The real problem is that just because some trucks don't do it, the owners of those trucks thinks it's not a problem.
