    Hey Guys-

Buying a '18 TRD Sport 4x4 DCSB MT. The dealer printed out a "dealer daily" vehicle details sheet for the truck, that has a bunch of details about the truck specs. One of the bullets is:

    TRAC: NO

I am still learning, but thought I read that they have TRAC in the drivetrain... as an electronic option having to do with lsd. Do some models have TRAC and some don't in the sport? Its completely possible I'm confusing terms here. I know the off road has ATRAC or something.

Best video out there showing the 3rd Gen TRAC, ALSD like capabilities. Pay particular attention when the SR 4x4 drags the rear pumpkin and gets a little gnarly on the left front wheel. The TRAC system LOCKS the front left wheel in mid air. All power diverted to the right front wheel. 3rd Gen TRAC is a strong system. Remember, it locked the wheel with a lot of power being applied in 4LO.

Thanks, but I think maybe you misunderstood my question. The dealer spec sheet for the truck I'm getting said TRAC: No. Which to me means it doesn't have TRAC. What gives?

It has TRAC, which is the traction control system, both in 2WD and 4WD. Your truck has Auto LSD in 2WD. But some of us suspect it in 4WD mode also.

Check the sticky TRAC modes thread. Lots of good info there.

Thanks... thats what I thought. So the spec list saying TRAC: NO... must not mean there is no trac correct? Do they make a tacoma without TRAC?

BTW, best thing to do in 4WD modes is to not press the VSC (ALSD)button which stops TRAC from functioning. Leave it on by default for 4 wheelin’ trails or in snow covered conditions. If you press that button, you’ll be limited to the open diffs with no traction control.

Traction control has been federal mandated since 2012.

I don’t believe they do. All vehicles now a Days have some form of traction control. Your window sticker (if you kept it) should have auto lsd in the print. Check that when you can.

Maybe TRAC: NO means something else?

    It’s a typo if anything.

Your truck has a stout TRAC system. My favorite is in the rain. 4HI at a stop is like launch control smiles. It hauls the goods and puts separation between you and the rear vehicle quick like. (Particularly at an incline freeway onramp :0)
