haha. I guess CR is just consumer/survey based. I think the taco's get good reviews from actual car people?

Consumer Reports sux azz....I have said it before..they are they same organization that rated samsung washer number 2 or 3...those same models were later recalled because they would " blow up"...so you have to take reports, JD powers and all the other reviewers with a grain of salt...at least with the taco if 1 year later you don't like it you will get most of your coin back when you sell it.

I had a whole response lined up, but i've cut my response down to:

You read a CR review of the Tacoma. Awesome. You are here now to get the thoughts from people who actually own the trucks and drive them day in/out versus some CR BS. We have given you an answer already. Now you just have to make your decision.

Welcome to TW BTW!:hattip: I too lurked for a few months before I bought my Tacoma.

Not all of them. There are plenty of threads here with some of the known issues affecting the newer Tacomas (transmission hunting until it learns you, diff howl, A/C drain issue (and fix) etc...). It's got it's issues. Just put some of that research power to work and dig around here. If you can live with the current complaints or devise a fix for the ones you know you'll get hung up on, go for it.

Well said, and true! The resale value on these trucks is off the charts. You can’t get hurt.

a good review. So it seems besides a few issues, these trucks still are super reliable right? There's always the warranty too! But if I lift the sport or do some mods that warranty might be affected ;)

Also, it seems they tested the SR5. Not the TRD models. But I'm thinking that wouldn't make too much of a difference swaying their stupid ass opinion anyways.

I don't trust the automotive media, they panned some of my favorite vehicles that weren't perfect but were good vehicles warts and all. It's very subjective. As said above test drive, there are warranties, maintain it properly and you should be ok. Unfortunately that are no real guarantees if that's what you want, maybe invest in an extended warranty from Toyota.

damn dude, glad you're OK! This makes me feel good considering I'd be carrying my daughter around too. My thing now is... how the hell can CR even have a "predicted reliability" rating. You can't predict reliability as easy as they make it seem.

OP, I feel your concern. I, too, relentlessly researched, read every review of every truck and drove them all. Not to be crass but money was no object. Drove a Raptor, "the greatest, best performing truck on the planet". Drove a Colorado ZR2, "the second coming of Christ". Drove a Silverado, "the great American do-everything truck". Drove a Ridgeline, "the smoothest, comfiest, car-like truck" out there. Drove a Porsche Cayenne GTS, a Range Rover Sport (thought maybe a high performance SUV might sway me away from a truck) and a few other "cool" vehicles (X5, Grand Cherokee SRT). Drove a Tacoma Sport and OR just for kicks to complete my research. Loved the Tacos. But wait! The reviews were only so-so!
Bottom line, bought a PRO having never driven it or even seeing one in person(luckily found one by accident 150 miles away on a dealer's website), despite passing on all the other "super-trucks" and despite the lack of media love for the Tacoma. COULDN'T. BE. HAPPIER. I love my PRO and have zero regrets. As I've said before, it's not perfect (though damn near). But it's perfect for me. It's the only vehicle (out of 40-some that I've owned) that I'm liking more and more each time I get in it. The thrill is not gone!
This was just my experience and yours may be vastly different. But don't read too much into the written reviews/opinions. Trust your gut and you will end up with the right truck. I see a Taco in your future! My $.02.
P.S. My 4 1/2 year old boy loves it too and I have no hesitation strapping him into his Recaro car seat in "our" Tacoma!

Thanks man. Nice pro BTW, wish that was in my price range. I think I'm gonna still go through with the silver trd sport!

Even if you hate the truck, you could sell it and take a minimal loss. The resale value is fantastic on Tacomas. You don't really have much to lose by buying one.

I think the biggest reason why CR hates on the Taco is due to the funky Auto transmission issues that people have had in 3rd Gens, which is really only programmed that way for better fuel economy. But let's be real, we drive trucks. If I wanted MPG I'd have bought a Prius.

Bought my Pro back in March, I've daily driven it 10k miles thus far and absolutely no issues whatsoever. "Predicted Reliability" is a load of horse shit, it's a Toyota.

Buy a manual Taco, ignore the haters and your MPG readings.
