My friend Doug has really been getting on my nerves lately because it seems like all he talks about is the TV shows and movies he watches, and quotes lines from them...

His latest obsession is the old Tim Allen series Home Improvement. I think he watches the shows on NetFlix or something...

He will literally quote the same part of a specific episode over and over again.

One year, he got The Other Guys (starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) on DVD for Christmas. Anybody who's seen that movie knows that Will Ferrell's character's Prius gets stolen, and then among other things a group of gay homeless guys have an orgy in the car. When Ferrell's character gets the car back, he is informed that they found a "deer vagina" in the car. At some point in the movie, another character who is riding in the car asks "Does it smell like deer vagina in here to you?"

Doug quoted this particular line for what seemed like weeks after he got the damn movie. Luckily, he seems to have gotten past it...

But basically, I've been too nice to tell Doug to shut up and talk about something else...

What should I do?!?!

 

Just leave him be, what is it hurting?

 

Continue trying to be nice? Alternatively, you can answer back with you own movie quotes. I think I can be quite annoying myself at times.

 

When he is standing next to your truck and the window is down and he says "Does it smell like deer vagina in here?"

Or when you are standing next to each other and he asks "Does anybody smell deer vagina?"

Seriously, the first time he said that quote, I thought he trying to say that my truck smelled like dirty pussy!

If he does it once or twice, nothing...

If he does it constantly for years and your other friends complain about it too, then that's a different story...

 

My friend has also done some stuff in the past that bordered on crossing the line...

Stuff that sometimes makes me wonder why I'm friends with him still...

He's not a bad person at all, but if you knew him for almost a decade like I did, you'd understand.

 

Him saying a movie line isnt hurting anything charlie, let the man talk. Might be annoying to you, but maybe he is just doing his thing, so let the man speak. How would you feel is someone was constantly wanting to censor you?

 

Maybe it's more the time and place he says it...

 

My cousin went over to his house with me one time and my friend was being so obnoxious and unpleasant that my cousin took me aside and asked me if he had mental problems...

 

People have tried to censor me more times than I can count...

I just blow 'em off...

When I was in school, this resulted in detentions. Nowadays, however, people don't have much recourse...

I'm politically incorrect and damn proud of it!

 

Just remember, you just commented on how your buddy says things with poor timing and place. Being proud of being politically incorrect is no different. Its better to be tactful, or say nothing at all than to be down right rude.
