Just bought a ‘18 Taco TRD Sport and am looking to replace the Toyo A3 that came stock. Through Craigslist, I can get a great deal on a set of General A2 tires, but the size is 265/70 17. According to my local Discount Tire Store, the Generals are 3.4% taller then the 65s. As such, they do not recommmend the 265/70 17. They are telling me that the taller tire will kill my gas mileage and, possibly, cause computer problems. Are they just feeding me a line of BS to sell me their tires? I’m at OEM height and have no plans to lift the truck.

On a side note, if anybody is looking for a good deal on the OEM Toyos, let me know.

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
You will be fine, everyone runs that size or bigger. It looks great on our trucks. Your mpg will be hit very slightly. If you like the used tires then go for it.

I’m unaware of anyone posting any problems by going up a size in tires on our Tacos. The 265/70 will fit and work just fine. Could you get an mpg or two less? It is likely you will. I did when I went up a size on my 2nd gen Sport. I have a 3rd gen OR now and I’m going up a size because I think it looks better by filling out the wheel wells more. I had no computer issues and have not heard of anyone having them by going up a size. I’m surprised Discount Tire said something like this because they are generally held in high regard. Maybe you got a newbie. Best of luck to you.

Thanks everybody. Three percent didn’t seem like a big difference to me, but I’m no tire expert. Can the speedo be recalibrated to account for the taller tires?

Yes, but the difference in actual speed is minimal. There are several devices you can purchase yourself if being off by a couple of mph bothers you. I left mine alone because most speedometers are off a little anyway. Best of luck.

Went ahead and bought 265/70 17 tires (not the used ones - they were junk.) No computer or clearance issues and they look much better than the OEM Toyos. Thank for everybody input.
