I have a 2015 with a 4.0 in it. Problem I'm having is the gas gauge is off by about 5 gallons or so. It was working perfectly before I got t-boned on the passenger side but ever since then it's been off. I'm thinking it might be a sending unit but I don't want to waste money on it if it could be something else. Anyone else ever ran into this issue or have any ideas?

Was the truck fixed in a body shop? Call the insurance company.

I've been fighting with all that ever since November. They're saying nothing is wrong with it. I'm just to the point of fixing it myself and getting it done.

It's possible the sending unit is off slightly on the fuel pump.

Another reason why insurance is a scam. You have to pay for it, when you need it, they give you the run around, and then they jack up your rates even more cause you had a claim. Scam.

Get a Scan Gauge and ignore the one on the dash. It’s much more accurate anyways, and does a bunch of other stuff you might appreciate.

@Boyk1182 wouldn't the scan gauge get its reading from the sending unit? So if it's reading off then the scan gauge would read off too. Or am I wrong?

I'm curious as well. Right before I bought my truck, the PO replaced the fuel pump. Truck runs fine, but the gas gauge shows empty after only 90 miles of driving or so. I think it's either a bad sending unit or a bad ground, but haven't messed with it.

@EatSleepTacos yours sounds way worse than mine. I was thinking maybe a bad ground too but I need to look into the wiring diagram and check it all out also.

To be honest it's really low on my priority list, and I may never fix it. I just reset the trip gauge every time I fill up, and refill at 200 miles. I carry spare fuel just in case but haven't needed it yet.

Yea I know what you mean. It's not a huge issue. But I figured I'd see if anyone has ran across this before and had a easy or cheap fix

The main reason I haven't tackled it is dropping the fuel tank, or removing the bed. Both sound like a pain in the ass. Maybe when I get a fuel tank skid and have to replace my straps, I'll do it then.

Dropping the tank really isn't too bad. I dropped it once before to see if something got knocked loose and had it done in maybe a hour tops. I was working in gravel by myself too. But doing everything at once would make a lot more sense if you're not too worried about it.
