So, this is my first post about my first Tacoma that I just go back in November!!! I always wanted a Tacoma and finally made it happen (truly wanted a 1st Gen, but my wife wouldn't let me get a 'project truck'). I have a 2010 TRD manual access cab and after a very cold snap, my clutch got sticky and then noisy. I brought it to the dealership and they said it was the throw bearing, but the more research I do, the more I find out that this is a common problem with 2nd Gen Tacoma's.

My question; any advice, hints, wisdom of what to do? Should I simply replace the throw bearing, thus replace the entire clutch assembly since the transmission is dropped, or is there a better remedy that will last longer? Some threads indicate that the problem simply comes back after 15,000 miles - yikes!

Any help with my first Tacoma would be awesome! I thought I would be adding and modifying to my truck, not replacing the clutch after four months (I'm actually good on a clutch). Can't wait to get over this and start all the mods suggested on this awesome group!

It’s the throw out bearing. Google “Tacoma throw out bearing” and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Well documented issue. Mine got super loud in my 2nd gen, I learned to live with it. Guys get it and clutch replaced and it sometimes comes back after a year. I had almost 200k miles on my chirpy clutch when I traded it in, no harm done that I know of. I believe they sell aftermarket kits to help. Worth looking into if it bothers you.

Awesome info Hayman! That thread was exactly what I was looking for. The noise is driving me nuts, so I have to do something about it. The clutch is strong and it would probably be fine to not do anything about it, but to have such an awesome truck and have it sound like crap really bothers me.
My local dealership is unaware of the fixin' options, so I'm getting it to my buddies shop and will let you know the outcome.

    Thanks for the info!!

Does this happen to the majority of the 2nd gen manuals. I have a 07 with 69k. Can I expect this problem to arise at anytime?
