I thought the issue was Dana didn't put any kind of rustproofing on the frames, period.

    It sold :(:(:(:(, I don't blame whoever snagged it. 65k miles and crisp 1st gen, I haven't seen one w/under 100k anywhere.

    Oh well, the hunt continues

Just found holes in my frame 2 weeks ago. I was devastated, as I thought I had taken such good care of her. Brought it to Toyota and they wouldn't let me drive it off the lot. Said the frame was like swiss cheese. They put me in a loaner corolla and told me it would be 2 to 3 months before I could get it back. Glad they honored the frame rust through. Not ready to give up on my truck yet. I've had it for almost 14 years and just hit 200k with it a month ago. Probably gonna have them replace a few things on it while they have it apart as well. Leaf springs, rear axle seals, maybe the rear brake backing plates if I can find some reasonably priced. If anyone has any advice on other things I should think about please let me know.

Leaf springs are included. I had them put in a new front cat, new bilstein 4600’s all around, coil springs, rear axle housing with new seals, bearings, and abs rings. I feel like my truck was lifted 2 inches, but everything is stock, she was tired. My front end also feels a lot tighter after the swap. I am very pleased.

    Pretty much stock right now
Congrats. It will be worth the wait.

It's a good time to do any work you don't want/can't do. Depending on the dealer, they may install your parts, which you may find cheaper on-line. It's worth considering LBJ/UBJ/TREs/rack bushings, as they will be removing most of those and realigning the truck. If I were in your shoes, I may consider replacing front/rear suspension (notwithstanding the new rear leafs). Depends on what your future plans are for the truck, as many of these mods don't necessarily pay you back when you sell.

Are you in the rust belt? Some rusty components may be worth replacing.

My 03 has 236k miles now but got a new frame in 2012 2 owners ago. Got new rear leafs and upper and lower control arms according to the invoice. I thought they only did lowers... Honestly after changing shocks and front springs after I got it the thing really does feel like it's a new truck. The frame deal is 15 years from new but if it wasn't sprayed during the campaign you are pretty much SOL. My last 05 was sprayed 2 years before I sold it and I got another letter from Toyota a few months ago saying they were re-checking them again. I told the new owner, he brought it in and sure enough it got a new frame. So he's pretty excited obviously. I actually had a hard time selling it because it hadn't had a replacement before. Just about all of them left around here got new frames years ago.

Bit older thread...but I recently bought a 2003 Tacoma (4cyl). Wonder how long the frame recall lasts...and not sure if mine needs it or qualifies. But But if 15 years, when in 2018 (beginning or end or a date based on VIN) will it be up. I emailed a dealer, but thought I'd trust some info here as dealer info sometimes a mixed bag. Thanks for assist.

The extended warranty list for 15 years since the "Date of First Use" listed in Toyota Owners site. When sold in some states it had to have "frame recall" completed by specific date (frame spraying by Toyota). So first to see if your vehicle qualifies check the service record if and when frame was sprayed (you didn't say where is your truck from) and the most important the "Date of first use". If the date of first use of your truck is before September 30th, 2003 the extended warranty already expired. If not, then you can go to Toyota service for frame inspection to check the stat of you frame. If it is bad (certain criteria are listed), then it can be replaced on Toyota dime. this is a decent summary, especially to me personally that is trying to get to the bottoms on WHAT THE FCK have you done for me and are continuing to do to me through your support #s and local dealers ignorance and stupidity for over a decade+
