I'm going to be driving down to Shasta then redwoods near Eureka this coming week. Shasta one night and part of one day then heading to Redwoods a couple of days. I don't have my tacoma yet and driving down in an Audi Q5 so no serious offloading. Was wondering if there are recommendations people may have for interesting FS roads with views that are relatively snow free or at least groomed and not requiring winching etc. and/or great hikes. I'll likely keep my matrax just in case. I realize weather may limit views and likely will have rain etc. No matter -- have time to get away and decided I'll head south from Seattle and visit the redwoods and Shasta - great memories from when I lived in CA but only drove through a few times then but did a lot of hiking in the Shasta area back then. Some 22 years ago! I'm sure the area has changed by now. Redwoods I may even relish in the rain. Hope to take some photographs.

Current plan is to drive down to Shasta, spend a night. Hike and do something locally. Then head down to Redding and across to VRBO place near Eureka.

    Any info appreciated.

Just an FYI, they are predicting major mountain snow storms next week.

Burney Falls is a long ways from the coast, though (closer to Nevada than the coast).

Crescent City is worth a stop. There is a light house there, that is on a peninsula, that becomes
an island at high tide. At low tide, you can walk over the rocks to check it out.

Of course, there is the famous drive-thru redwood tree.

Thanks - will be driving back up the coast so will pass through Crescent City and will check it out.
Driven through the redwoods before ( never hiked ) so must have done the drive-thru tree but don't remember it.
Thinking of doing a hike through redwoods to the ocean.
