I have a 1998 Tacoma with a TRD S/C that I want to install a URD Mass Air Flow Fuel & Timing Calibrator / FTC1-017D Fuel/Timing Calibrator on.
Has anyone installed one on their truck and if so can you give me any tips or pictures of the install?
Were do I run the vacuum hose to? No where on the instructions does it reference the tubing installation.

    Thank you.

I can help you, mine has been on the truck since 04. I have mine "T" with my boost gauge. It is a MAP sensor so it needs both vacuum and boost reference.

Biggest tip is pull the ECM harness through the firewall to the engine bay. Makes wiring and soldering much easier. I can get pick when I get home.

Thank you, and where did you mount your box, this thing is way bigger than I though it would be.

I just left it in the glove box, I'm so used to it being there that I don't miss the space.

Have you done any tuning? I got it wired in and took it for a test drive. Acceleration feels smoother, and it revs in neutral much quicker, but I still have the pre boost pinging in high gear. Also, while it still makes 7 pounds of boost, it does not feel the same.
I have an AEM wideband AFR gauge, an Ultra Gauge with timing, short fuel trim, long fuel trim, air inlet temp, engine temp and voltage displayed and my boost gauge. Besides the interconnect cable, what else do I need to start tuning my truck?

I have tuned it many times over the years. I have a no timing retard tune (cuz I run W/I) and another tune I use for towing(some timing retarded for a safety factor but very little).
I basically just reload between the two.

    Lets start here.
What injectors are you using? Have you loaded the R4 s/w onto your laptop? Did you get preloaded maps? Where did you get it, URD?

Pre boost ping in hi gear can still happen with no retard in that particular cell. You can see that in Map B.

I installed 2002 3.4 injectors, I was told they were a little more than the ones I had when I did the S/C install.
I have downloaded the R4 software on my pc, will put it on my laptop soon, and I'm waiting on my usb cable, I purchased the box from URD.
Gadget said it has a map for larger injectors and to "tune it now."

I'm looking at these injectors in 330cc https://www.fiveomotorsport.com/toyota-lexus-supercharged-1uz-1mz-2jz-3uz

After installing I noticed that my throttle response is much smoother, the transition from closed loop to open loop is seemless, it starts making boost sooner than it did and while it accelerates quicker, it doesn't have the same feel as it did before.

I have the supra injectors that came with the original kit which are about 318cc if I remember correctly. Not sure what cc the '02 injectors are.

When you said it feels different, what is your afr's as soon as you go into boost to 7lbs.?

It will start to make sense when you can have your laptop attached to the box and see what load cell you are in while driving and the corresponding afr.

When do you expect your cable?

I am looking at a set of Lexus 1UZ injectors that flow 330cc
I received my cable yesterday, took forever to connect to the FTC, then took another eternity to read the MAPs.
I have a lot to learn about this, and I don't know if I am ready to get started. But I need to get rid of this pre boost pinging before I end up blowing an engine.

Some notes from my drive this morning.
Pre boost at 3000 RPMs and 14.4 AFR
Pedal to the floor, 13.4 AFR when boost starts
WOT @ 4000 RPMs, open loop and 7psi boost was 12 AFR
Closed loop timing pre boost 26°
WOT open loop timing advance 14°

Anyone out there have a MAP that they would be willing to share to help me getting started with my tuning?

Hey. I recently purchased an AFR sensor calibrator and hope to get an FTC1 017D soon for my supercharged 5VZ tacoma. I have the Supra 318cc injectors installed and a walcro 190 fuel pumo in a box and will likely install that too. I'm also currently installing JBA headers, AFE air tube along with the typical mods for SC 3.4L--- cooler plugs, thermostat, et. I just stated looking for appicable maps for both the AFR and FTC calibartors for a %VZ aspiated like mine... ie. headers. can you guys (or anyone else for that matter) point me in the direction of getting a useful fuel map for my calibrators?

Also worth mentioning is that I know very little about air-fuel tuning for this supercharger except for what I've read recently. I don't have a very good handle on how this all works... I hope that R4 software and the tuning process isn't too complicated. a reloaded "best fit" map might suit my needs. Would I be better off taking it to a shop? I hesitate doing that route for fear of it becoming a rabbit hole where by my money would then be dumped into in large quantity!
